I am waayyy out of the loop on things these daze and suck at negotiating.....

I am currently driving a '17 4X4 Tacoma Sport, my fourth Tacoma over 30 years....
I think I am ready to move up to a Tundra primarily for more towing power.

At a local dealer: 2019 Tundra 4X4 Limited Double Cab. 20K miles, very clean, Toyota Certified.

All stock except for a tonneau cover but I will need a cap.

I scheduled a ride for tomorrow and I bet they want all the money..... :eek2:
( I'll tell you their asking price as your feedback rolls in.)

?? What is the max I should or you would pay ??

45k too much? Idk, my used car price gauge is way off the past 1+ Year(s). Honestly I think every used car I’ve seen it’s overpriced

if it’s more used than it was new. Too much.

    I mean great for a seller but…

I bought that same setup in November. Certified 2019 Limited CM 4X4 with TRD OR package, factory sunroof and running boards. Had the Bonus of a color matched ARE topper with full bed rug kit. Purchased in the salt free south. Had 43k miles on it. Asking was $53k. Paid $47.5k plus taxes.

Didn’t feel like it. But the market is crazy right now and I haven’t purchased a vehicle for myself in 16 years. We got a travel trailer that was just too big for my 1st Gen to pull. Had to get something. Was always going to be a Tundra. Splurged a little on the options since I’ll likely keep this one another 16 years.

Crazy market, dealer lots near empty here in SoCal, they are not in the mood to negotiate...

I just picked up a 2021 certified used limited crew cab 4wd and I think I may have paid more than original sticker! It was originally sold new 4 months ago, is in perfect condition with less than 5k miles. I got them to throw in.... nothing.

They came down ~$1500 from their sticker, but that was only after they added about the same in bogus charges to the out the door price o_O

But I'm happy and excited to have the truck. Good luck to you.

I purchased my current 2019 TRD Pro in August 2021 with 28k on the odometer for $54k. They were asking $57,950. I traded in my 2017 SR5 w/ the SR5 upgrade package and lots of aftermarket upgrades (wheels tires lift etc…) with 39k on the odometer, and they gave me about $12k more than I walked in expecting, giving me a couple thousand less than I paid for it new 3 years previous. Things are just so wonky right now.

In Feb '19, dealer was asking 43k for my certified 2018 4x4 limited CM with 4k (yes, only 4k) miles on it. Couldn't find an sr5 for that price when I was looking. Wanted the quicksand in my case - as I settled for the second best color (white) when I got my first tundra.

You're the only one who determines if it's a good deal. When I was shopping, I wasn't paying over 44 asking. Stick to your guns and price point.

If you don't need the Tundra right now and could wait a year or two for vehicle prices to come back to Earth, I'd recommend that.

Guess at that point I'd be looking at a used '22+. If I go used, I'll want something pristine with low, low mileage.

Ahhh, yes there is the difference in price. I bounce between north and south and get off the beaten path from time to time. I've had 4WD for so many years now I feel like I'd be lost without it when in reality, I probably use it a couple times a year.

The option part is severely diminished. They used to have to decide wether or not they really wanted to sell the truck to you. Now they know it will sell. And it will sell for whatever they want to sell it for. Hard to get a reasonable deal. I feel like in a normal market I overpaid by at least $5-6k. Today’s market? Maybe I got a decent deal. The main problem was I NEEDED a truck. Had to be able to pull the new camper. Sold our house, had lots of moving parts. Otherwise I would have just kept driving my old Tundra. Everytime I found a truck I liked it was sold in less than a week.

I am a cheap sob but still decided to buy in the current environment. Drove my 09 corolla for 11 years, with some used F150s and a F250 as a second vehicle. Sold my F150 literally right before Covid, have been without a truck ever since and actively shopping. Everything I read was the supply issues will not stop until well into 2023. I made the decision if I could get one for a decent price I’d buy it. Offered a dealer 44k OTD on a SR5 4x4 msrp 42900. They initially asked for 42900+5500 markup+tax/tag. I told them no 44k OTD and I’ll buy it today (Dec 31st) and they sold it. I think I paid about 4-5k more than I would have pre-Covid. To me it was worth it to pay extra, but not to pay 10k+ extra - I would have continued to wait. So my recommendation is decide what the truck is worth to YOU, and then go around making offers for that amount and stick to your guns.

Unsure how the market is now that '21s are not being made and the '22s are in work. With you wanting low low miles and pristine, I'd suggest buying new and working deals until you get what you want. It might take some time but if you aren't in a rush, is there and harm in trying?
I know this past year used trucks sold for more than new. Main reason being, they have the used truck today and most the new ones being sold were like 6 months out. They rather make money today and get a future sale locked in.
Back when I bought in 2018, I was between a low mile truck and a new. I bought new because I got the price within 4k and the new had everything I wanted and I would know how it was driven and maintained.

You trading in the Taco? You'd get some good money for that

and curious if you'd want a 3rd gen Tundra?

I had a 2013 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X and needed more power to haul a family of 4 and a 22 foot camper.

I purchased a one owner, accident free, 2014 SR5 Crew Max with TSS package and 203K miles. It is really clean considering the miles.

    Paid 23k!

I personally couldn't afford anything with less miles so I guess I will only get another 800k miles out of it!

I do not know if the price was right but I am very happy with it!

    Ha !
Just got done paying off the Tacoma and dread another round of payments but I am hopeful to take some of the sting out of the price of a Tundra by trading it of course.

They had a couple 3rd gens on the lot, SR5 I believe....
I held out for these to come wishing for better MPG's but not so sure they are delivering from what I have been reading here (?)

I sold my frontier for the same amount I paid for it 4 years ago with another 40k miles on the odometer to the first person that came to see it. I will take my Tundra SR5 with 200k over my Frontier with 100k for the same price any day!
