expecting too much for the heated wheel by all he wanted was to be able to tell its on? lol. And everyone else's, the heat goes all the way around and gets nice and warm.

and it doesn't matter what apps, etc your running, it should be at least be able to maintain the current charge state, not lose ground so you have to take it off and plug it in on trips.

as you were the price defender on this site, which is fine, these type of features need to work and work right for 50-65K trucks, no excuses.

reminds me of the vented seats in my platinum that do nothing.

I can answer this question with a simple logical test.

IF ATF COOLER = FALSE THEN PROBLEMS VALUE = ALL

IF ATF COOLER = TRUE THEN PROBLEMS VALUE = ZERO

I am the price defender? Where the hell did that come from?

And I think he is exaggerating about saying he can't feel anything. And not everyone goes all the way around, it depends on the type of wheel and design.

I will agree with you on the ventilated seats though, I've had them on a few vehicles, including my current LC. They are next to useless.

sorry about the price defender I was mistaken you for that hex dude. my fault on that one. disregard that. I can edit that out if you want.

and I hope your right and he's exaggerating on the heat, I don't want another vented seats performance from the heated wheel, I was considering a platinum truck if I can fit in garage and I like it better than the GMC 6.2 after the test drive, and for 65K that thing better work!

No need to delete, thank you for the correction, says a lot about you.

I guess my expectations are not very high on the steering wheel. As long as it isn't cold, I'm happy and have no problem driving with my hands in the proper position for a couple miles.

I get it, your expedition should be higher with how much money they want for these things. My 2013 ram for instance wheel heated all the way around and got nice and toasty and the vented seats worked awesome. There is no excuse for toyota not to do the same, especially now that they cost the same or more than the others.

these aren't basic trucks of the old days, these are 50-65K+ trucks with luxury features that we are paying our hard earned money for. That shit needs to work this time around, Im tired of the reliability only argument for toyota, 65K that shit needs to work and work well.

I recently had a Camry loaner, the steering wheel basically only heated at 9-10 and 2-3 (maybe 8:30ish and 3:30ish as well). It was the first thing I said to my wife when I turned it on. Kinda stinks, but I guess just hold at 10 and 2 for the first few minutes of the ride. :woot:

Interesting Thread. Predicting Failure and reliability. Taking a more strategic view. Why do I buy Toyota? For there design and quality approach centered on reliability.
All things mechanical have failures. I have a 17 4Runner TRD Pro-highly rated Platform. Six months after I purchased it, it had a complete Brake System failure-Yes-lost all braking and had to use the E-Brake to stop. (It was a pause and clean out your pants event) Took a month for Toyota to diagnose, replicate and replace the entire system. They had the 4runner tied into there main service frame via a Sat Link frame. A senior tech came in and we drove it many times in all conditions collecting data on the system. Yes-there are some dark systems in each Toyota they can tap into for data showing all aspects of performance and operations. They found the brake loss event and exactly how the system went into complete failure.

To there credit, they stuck with it. In the end, I will trust in Toyota with there Design and Quality approach.

TLDR: Driver door lock was bugging out, magically fixed itself, Toyota reached out and sent their team to his dealership to dissect the problem and sorted it out. Issue was the door lock trim QC causing some sort of blockage that wouldnt let the lock fully confirm the door was locked.

ANY time I ever have an issue with my 22...I'm taking a video of it and sending it directly to this YouTuber. He is now the new "Customer Service" department for Toyota since he's so damned well connected with Toyota peeps. hahaha

The infotainment system seems to be a mess. I'm more concerned with how long the turbos will last.

Really? That sucks. As part of the dash that's going to be hard to fix with an aftermarket unit.

Hadn't heard the HU sucks yet.

any software issue of the infotainment can be fixed by future updates whether over the air or USB drive, that's no a problem
no amount of software update can fix mechanical defects from the factory

Turbochargers have been around since the 1800's, the turbos are the least of my concern. The people on this forum that are so worried about the turbochargers likely couldn't find them if you opened the hood. I've got a turbocharged truck sitting in my driveway right now with 400,000 miles on it, the turbo hasn't been touched.

Much more worrying to my is the electronics. It's amazing to me how a company like Toyota that can build such reliable vehicles can't seem to make a decent infotainment system. My 2016 Tundra navigation sucks, I tried it a few times and quit using it. Now I just use the bluetooth to talk on the phone while I've got my Iphone propped on the shifter for navigation. There's no excuse for the problems the guy is having in the video, a 12 year old kid should be able to design a better interface than Toyota has done.

I've seen four turbos go on work trucks. Two on diesels and two on gas, all Fords. Had an oil line rupture at 70,000 miles on a Chrysler which blew everything sideways in a few seconds after the turbo gauge started to go up with no increase in speed. All three people I knew 15 years ago who had VW TDIs had waste gates stick costing about $4000 each in 2004-5. Toyota used to sell turbos 25+ years ago but for some reason dropped them. Hopefully the Tundra turbos will be fine.

This argument is dumb, it was proven that towing this engine was working less hard than the tundra in prior tests and the ram in this test was. RPM is the load on the engine my friend.

Lower RPM is always better on an engine, plain and simple, lower RPM also keeps the turbos out of boost which seems to have some many people scared on here.

it’s okay that you don’t like the 3rd gen, but let’s be real- all your arguments are BS and you just recently bought a Toyota truck for the first time (probably some buyers remorse for not waiting). Toyota would not put an unproven; unreliable engine into the longest lasting truck on the market, nor would they put it in the land cruiser, hands down the most beaten on vehicle in the WORLD.

I suggest you watch the towing videos a few more times, research how engines work and load/ rpm and come back here with a little bit better of an opinion. The engine doesn’t work nearly as hard towing as the 5.7L does or the Hemi- that’s a huge win!

Smaller engine running under higher pressure is working harder. Call that bs all you want. I'll keep posting this as it's my opinion and it's a fact. Ignoring that fact is bs.

    Maybe Spraynard can help.

I read an article that explained how fuel consumption per unit time was an accurate assessment to predict wear and to conceptualize how much work an engine was producing.

For the current topic I would try to calculate how much fuel each engine was consuming given they are equally loaded. The engine which consumes more fuel could conceivably be undergoing more wear.

Not sure on that. 4th & 5th Gen 4Runners notoriously thirsty. 4.0L old technology V6 Engine and Trans. Virtually indestructible under any condition.

How much fuel is consumed is not taking into account the increase in pressures a turbo adds to the engine as well.

An increase in charge pressure is followed by an increase in fuel.
