I can't seem to find any decent information about this, so I thought I would create a thread to consolidate some of this info. My 2000 tundra is currently in for frame replacement, and the dealer says it will take up to a few months to complete. apparently I'll get the frame, brake lines, and lower control arms.

How long did the frame replacement process take for you?

And also, what did Toyota replace at no cost to you along with the frame?

Yeah, I know. I was just poking fun. I live in a pretty dry area and have no rust.

I took my truck in a couple months ago and Toyota found a hole in my frame. They said there was nothing they could do. I checked with two Toyota dealers and Toyota corporate. How did you get a frame replacement? Is it free or are you paying for it?

    Thank you,

    Travis

    Hi Travis,

My guess is that your truck had the CRC coating done to close the recall a few years ago because your frame at the time was able to pass the inspection. Because if this, Toyota is no longer liable for the frame because they “fixed” it.

My truck never had this recall addressed, so when I brought it in, they went through the entire inspection process. It failed the inspection, so they are replacing the frame free of charge.

You’re right, my truck had the coating done right when the recall came out but it’s since failed and now has a hole. It’s dissapointing to say the least. I have a 2001 and I understand it’s 17 years old but this truck is solid in every other regard and undoubtedly would go many more years without much trouble. I’ve owned it the last 11 years and it’s been fantastic. To make matters worse I’m really not in a position to purchase anything else so I’m watching it and I’ll just have to junk it once it gets too bad.

Anyways, enough complaining i suppose. Thank you for the prompt reply!

Yeah that sucks. If I were you, I would find a buddy who’s handy with a welder and have him reinforce it for you. Either that, or find a welding shop to do it.

Right after selling my first gen to a buddy, Toyota replaced the frame for him. Took about a month and a half

I didn't realize that recall was still open. I have a 2000 SR5 and I noticed recently that it's developed some decent-sized holes in the frame right behind the front wheels. How tough has it been for you all to get the dealer to agree to fix it? Was it as simple as stopping by the local dealer and asking, or did you have to call into Toyota?

    Thanks

I checked on Toyota.com to verify that my truck still had the recall open by entering the VIN number, and then I simply called the dealership, had them run the vin, and scheduled an appointment.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

By the way - the recall on Toyota.com looks like it's focused on the rear cross member. I think my worst corrosion is behind the front wheels - will this qualify for the frame replacement?

Thanks again for the help, Isaami. I called the dealer today and they verified the frame rust recall is still open on my Tundra, so I'm taking it over next week for inspection. The service guy mentioned on the phone that the recall is for rust on the rear cross member. I'm hoping they'll fix the whole frame, but I guess I'll have to wait to find out.
