How do you think the 2021 TRD PROs value will change as 2022 becomes more available?

I bit bias here but since I have a 2021 pro on its way I have been thinking of how the 2022 model will change the long term value of 2021 pros.

Part of me thinks that the value will actually be super good and potentially stay flat for 3 years (meaning we could get what we paid for it for 3 years). Combination of V8, the sound and the proven reliability makes me think there will always be buyers wanted to pay a premium for the "last Tundra V8 that sounds amazing".

The other part of me thinks it will drop super fast if the 2022s are priced decently.

Curious on everyone's thoughts!

 

IMO, there are two topics here.

First, our truck values are high now due to the current supply limitations. Nothing else. Second, I think Ford’s success with the Ecoboost proves the larger market is not wed to the V8. Especially when the new engines put out some amazing power and the interior is modern and fresh.

Combined, both will lead to a return of normal depreciation.

This assumes Toyota can maintain quality with the new truck and engine.

 

A better comparison would be to the powerboost not ecoboost, since that's what the TRD Pro is getting. And the powerboost is having typical first year issues, especially electrical. It's a toss up on depreciation. If the MPGs and powertrain function flawlessly then the TRD Pro could be a hit. But I think a lot of these excited folks are underestimating the 22 TRD Pro price. I think the 21 will hold good value for the first year minimum and after that it depends on how well the new one is performing and the supply to market.

 

Did you see the pics posted of the PRO interior??? Looks like Studio 54 circa 1975 threw up in it.

 

2022 pricing will also be a factor...... If a new 2022 Pro has as sticker of $65-$70k it will raise all boats

 

If the base is 65-70 you just need to get a raptor

This..... I have seen alot of people saying the 2022 TRD Pro will be in the 70 range and I cannot help but think the same thing. Why would they try and price this truck up with the TRX and Raptor I feel like its not a good idea.

I've owned a lot of vehicles over the years, and two things seem to hold true:
1. Owners of one gen almost always find things to dislike about about the new generation, and
2. Everyone wants to predict what the next "classic" will be.

I was on the Honda forums when the S2000 CR came out and it was roundly hated by most forum members...at first. Try to find a clean one now. Markets change. People change.

The "last of the V8s" is a thing that will matter to some people for sure, but I also think new buyers will warm quickly to a hybrid V6 if it has the power, performance and reliability we expect. I think our gen tundras will resume a normal depreciation curve when the global car market levels back out, but I also think our gen will continue to enjoy very low depreciation when compared to the competition like they always have. I don't expect a huge and unprecedented decline in value just because a newer model is readily available.

 

I’m hanging onto my 21’ Pro forever. Last year of the 5.7?!? How could I sell it!?!

 

It’s not gonna tank but will depreciate similar to all the other Pros that came before it which isn’t bad. I like buying used and it being the last year would mean nothing to me.

Other variables price,condition,miles,title would matter more

 

I look at it this way. Just my opinion I think the 21 last year for the V8 is going to hold its value especially if it’s a Pro. Me personally I’m not worried if the value drops. These truck runs for ever. And if you fall in the catagory that’s your trucks paid for and not worried about trading it in then you don’t worry about the value. You pay your insurance and have no payments. If I was going to buy one I would be flipping my truck now and making a boat load of money on it.

I think the V8 Tundras will be holding their values and even more, just like the FJ Cruisers did when they were dropped/discontinued. If i buy a new 2022 TRD Pro it would be to buy it at MSRP and resell it shortly thereafter if the market indicates it ahead of time.

Marion Morrison might get his legs dirty getting into my Tundra so I think he'd be more of a Ridgeline guy. I could see him in a Santa Cruz for sure.
