Are you removing them to plasti dip or are you masking and painting while they are on your truck? I'm getting the itch to do some...:notsure:

I painted mine with Plasti-dip by just taping them off. I did remove the fog lights though.

Masking works. Use around 7 heavy layers for better durability.

You don't have to move your fog lights. I made a template for them to cover lights and sprayed bumper in place. Just a thought

First coat should be very light, second coat a bit heavier, 3rd coat I go with a normal coat. The first coat being very light helps the plastidip adhere.

I pulled the grill off but taped the area around the bumper I wanted to dip.

I just did mine on New Year’s Eve, but I used protect-dip. I was very drunk but managed a decent job all considering! The truck was soaked and filthy, I cleaned the bumpers off twice, the last time with windex and dried them thoroughly with a heat gun. I then masked everything off about an inch around the ends of the chrome (ie I sprayed an inch past where I wanted the plastidip to go) then once done 6 coats of black and 3 of clear I removed the tape and paper. I should have left it alone for a day and THeN cleaned up and peeled away the excess but I was drunk and started peeling too soon...my drunken hands managed to peel away some parts I didn’t mean to remove lol. All in all the colour matches quite well to my paint colour (black) it’s shinier than the plastic part in between my bumpers. Going to spray some spray wax detailed stuff on it when I get a chance. Oh, and I removed the grill and the lower bits to access the front bumper ends, but kept all bumpers on.

Been thinking about doing this to my bumpers, just worried the color wouldn’t match up good. Got any pics of it out in the daylight?

That's the great thing about PlastiDip. If you spray it on and don't like the way it matches, just peel it off.

I’ll try to remember to take some tomorrow, though it’s winter and everything is covered in salt and sand. Maybe next time I wash it. The “protect dip” product I used I would say matches very well. I’ll let you see when it’s cleaner.

I grabbed this pic today. The bottom is my front bumper and too is the small panel under the headlight. I quickly wiped off the dust before the pic

In real life it matches really well. I will be spraying some spray wax on it this summer to help gloss it up a bit more
