Anyone in the Houston area that can recommend a shop for regearing? I already have the gears from nitro (5.29) and Auburn pro that I was going to install but im short on time currently. I know @1UPPER had his installed here somewhere, but I can't find that thread.

Duggy’s Garage is one place that could do it, they specialize in Toyota 4x4

@SullyMoto19 went to CTO Off-road for his regear, he seemed to have had a positive experience with them

Called Duggys garage today and told them that I only needed a rear install and that I already had everything already, gears, oil, bearings and Auburn pro..... they quoted $1600! I think Toyota counts this as a 4 1/2 hour install! I think someone got confused when coming up with the quote

Spoke with the guy at 249drivetrain today. He actually talked on the phone just BS'ing with me for awhile. Quoted $650 for just the rear so maybe double plus a little more if your 4wd. He did say that he's crazy busy though.

Good deal. The pricing sounds about right. I believe mine was around $500, but i brought him the chunk and new carrier bearings. Be warned that those may not survive since the outer cage lip is cut, not rolled. It Significantly reduces the resistance to deforming on removal. He may have the appropriate jig to support that lip, but i destroyed mine in an attempt to remove it. That's why i brought it to the pro.

He is always very busy. He was really cool on the phone when i was getting everything setup. I told him i needed it in a weeks time and he agreed. When i had not heard anything after a week, i called for a status check and he got really pissy with me for calling. Was really awkward. But yeah the work was good so i cannot complain

His prices are ridiculous...Ive called for an aftermarket alignment with adjustable UCAs...Quoted $200....I then called for a Cab Mount Chop and he wanted $350. I love the vehicles that come out of the shop but I am also thinking how sad it is that all these Toyota dudes cant wrench on their own vehicles or know the correct cost..

I had a LX470 with 4.88 Nitros...I forgot what shop I called and they said they sent all theirs to: https://lonestaraxle.com/ I had already spoken to him prior to hearing they sent their vehicles there so that's who I went with and he did an awesome job and was suuuper affordable...Had a cool shop on his own property out in Katy area. He had easily 5 Toyotas out front and 3 jeeps inside...Good dude

That’s a bit harsh. Those prices translate to 2 and 3.5 hours of labor respectively. Sounds close enough to right for quality work. Dudes running a business. Gotta make money somehow. It’s not always about being able to wrench or not. Sometimes it’s about value.

Sorry(?) man, I did say I loved their builds though.

For what it's worth it was for my 2nd gen Tacoma. I got my alignment done for $85 at McGuire Tire in Belton/Temple...Did a fantastic job, adjusted my SPCs and all... And I got my BMC done at 3rd Coast Crawl /Javier's for $200...Both shops did a great job. I guess if money was a little more disposable I'd love for a shop to do a full build for me, but I'm not there yet.

Half way there! Thanks for the recommendation at lonestaraxle! I was very impressed with how easy this was to remove! Took me about an hour and a half.... but I wasted alot of time figuring out what was next. Could probably get this down to 30-45 minutes. Anyone not wanting to get raped on a front and rear install should definitely pull the rear themself and drop it off at a shop.

249 Drivetrain gave me the "I don't need your business price" for front & rear install. $1850.

I use Duggy’s for stuff I don’t have the tools for or when I don’t have time. Everything they have done for me has come out perfect. Which is saying something. I know they are expensive as heck but sometimes it’s worth it to be confident in the quality you are getting.

I get it. You get what you pay for. I've also overpaid for stuff and it wasn't up to snuff.

I think 1500 is on the high side of this kind of labor so 1850 is extreme imo. If Duggy's is gonna be anywhere near that count me out.
