Good morning Tundra friends....Looking for some feedback on my idea. We've decided to buy a hot tub in the near future. Not wanting to take up any space on our concrete patio I'll be grading out a 12X12 area adjacent to the patio and laying in a 4" bed of stone.

I'll be installing it on a wood platform set on a 4" bed of stone.

My idea is to build a 12X12 platform using 4X6X12 with either cedar or standard PT decking. Do you think I need blocking between the 4X6's or can the decking act as the "rigidity" enhancer?

My thought is that the platform only serves to get the tub off the ground and to have a "soft" clean place to enter and exit the tub. The platform will not have any cross or diagonal forces put on it since it will sit directly on the ground with the weight of the hot tub on it (approx 3100 pounds).

How many 4X6's would you recommend I use?
