Thinking about cutting into the hood and installing some heat extractors. Anyone done this?
I’m a metal fabricator(welder) so I know my way around a cutting wheel and can make a precise cut. I’ve never seen any kind of hood vents on the tundra. Thought the mustang vents would fit perfectly on the hood bulge’s. I fabricate all the time, but I’m a little nervous to cut into the hood.

Enhancing aesthetics is nice but creating a place for rain and truck wash intrusions may open a can of worms for you.

Kudos for your creative thoughts but also be aware of creating unwanted associated problems.

You can drive it knowing you are the only one with a truck like that. And if it messes up or doesn’t look right, it’s just the cost of a new hood.

Ditto. The only people I see doing that stuff around here are the kids with the ricers and 90% of the time it's a stick-on fake anyways. The truck came from the factory the way it is perfectly fine. If it's sheerly for looks though, then by all means chop it up.
At the end of the day.. it's your truck, do whatever you want to it.

Don't cut the holes only to find out the mustang vent contour will not fit flush on the Tundra hood.:annoyed:

Another thing I observe is that the mustang hood openings have a rolled edge to finish the holes. The vents have no flange for flush mounting. That alone would push this into the "more trouble than value" category for me. Having a plain edge on the holes would make this alteration look "amateurish" beyond recovery imo.

Thanks for the input. I think the curve on the mustang vents matches the curve on the the 07-13 tundras. That’s the only reason I wanted to go with those. I knew the edge might look weird and I’ll have to figure that out, might sink it in and do a rubber trim on the lip. I was going to put a mesh lining in under the vent to protect from debris, as for water getting in, I don’t see a problem with that. I go mudding all the time and wash the engine quite a bit, water gets on it all the time. As far as functionality I believe it would work, I have an open intake filter that will breath better with some cold air coming in or hot air going out.
