Hey guys! I really want to add an LED bar to the hood bulge area on my TRD Pro but the thought ( and argument with my wife) of spending over 1k US on a baja light bar just won't fly. Has anyone had any luck with an off brand eBay or Amazon bar in that location?

Also would the SDHQ mount still work? Just wondering what others have tried or used.

I purchased an Amazon 38” lightbar and installed it in the hood bulge. It was $50. I had to cut the three metal bars on the hood and I cut the plastic part to fit the light bar. I should have taken some pictures but at the time I was totally winging it. It’s possible.

Ran a cheapy on my 14 and 16, recently put a Baja designs s8 in with the Sdhq brackets. Let me tell you the Baja designs bar blows the cheap bars out of the water big time

Nice job! Which bar is this? I don't want to cut my bulge ("cut my bulge" lol)

Think I'll install one of those when I get a 2019 TRD Pro grill that covers my current bar.

By the way, for those who haven't done this, you can buy a switch that fits in a non-used tab, and it's fuse tapped. The green wire here is unnecessary, he explains in the comments it's going to another switch so he only needs one tap.

It’s not mounted the greatest right now. I’ve only had this installed a couple months. I ran out of ideas mounting it at the time. Going to do a redo after doing some research. Basically right now it’s wedged in the plastic fake scoop. It’s solid and doesn’t move but it could be better.

I haven’t drilled any holes yet. Going to make up some brackets and secure to the hood.

I also have a 40" single row from Amazon with the SDHQ mount. Since that mount was designed around the BD S8 light bar just make sure the bar you go with has similar dimensions and you should be fine. The mounts come with some detailed instructions too.

I know people say buy once cry once but light bars are a little easier to swap out that suspension and other components.

My theory is if I get a year useful life out of each bar for ten years, at 100 bucks a pop, I'll still be under compared to the cost of one of the high end bars. So I'll take a chance on the cheapies and buy some other shit with the saving s

I feel the same way. Those expensive light bars are really nice and I would love to have one or three. I just can’t justify spending the cash on one. If I was racing or something that I was depending on lights then I would buy a trusted brand.

    Alot of them
Just realized that you had an S8 in the hood as well. Did you have issues with the 2 corner clips that they wanted you to trim? I ended up removing those 2 clips completely because they hit the bar no matter what, but the issue is that the corners of the bulge would stick up a little if it is hot outside. I bought a new bulge and tried trimming the clips again but I think they will have to be removed as well on this one.

Yep no way around it. My 2016 was the cleanest install I had… after hitting a deer. I mounted the light bar further back that normal and I 3m industrial double sided taped the hell out of the corners. All of my bulges have always had three indents where’s it tightens down and the corners always flare out.
