Didn't want to pay the price for a hidden winch setup for a 2nd gen and really there are not many products available, so with a generic winch plate I made my own. That and a little bit of plate steel.

    Before I began
    IMG_2604.jpg
    Materials
    IMG_2605.jpg
Bash bar is going to be a pain but looks like enough room.
    IMG_2609.jpg
    Mock up with the tray
    IMG_2610.jpg
    24" x6' piece of 3/16 plate steel.
    IMG_2611.jpg
    Well I'm committed now.
    IMG_2613.jpg
I didn't get a pic but I tied the bash bar back into the winch plate using grade 8 bolts.
    IMG_2615.jpg
Plate steel bolted to factory 20k tow hooks. Painted it up too.
    IMG_2616.jpg
All bolted together and winch bolted on. I didn't get a pic of the control box for the winch but there was plenty of room just above the passenger side bash bar mount.
    IMG_2622.jpg
All back together - my license plate now uses rare earth magnets to hold it on and covers the winch nicely. I did have to cut off 6" of the plastic valance but I think it turned out really good.
    IMG_2623.jpg
License plate removed. You can see the winch line attached to the drivers side tow hook. I'll probably do a little more trimming around the fairlead but it does not interfere with the winch at all.
I did add a 300amp breaker inline to the battery just to nix any parasitic drain. Total of the creation was right at $400 including the 13k winch.

Love the tires. Super quiet on the road and amazing at 18psi off-road. No complaints at all.

This is great to see this. I have a 2010 CM also and I feel the winch bumpers are too much and I like to do the DIY. Are you able to reach the free spool lever without opening the hood? I knew this could be done with one of those winch plates but just didn’t know where to start. Thanks buddy for showing this. I have to finish my dual battery system then I want to try this.

Unfortunately you do have to have the hood up to get to the free spool lever. The winch I bought has a fast line speed so I’m planning on just running the winch line out under power.

Yeah the one I did for my 4Runner I had to weld a bunch. I’ll have to check yours out. I want to replace the rest of the plastic valence with plate and tie it into my skids still.

I dont have a good picture of it. What i did was made a base plate. So it could be bolted to the chassis and welded a two angles on each end and then welded the winch plate to it. Might sound confusing. Lol

Love the look and simplicity of this install. I was wondering how this has held up over the last few years as I would love to do something similar.

    Also liked!
I did a Badland 12k very similar on my 1996 Suburban using the tow hook frame bolt holes. Winch plate is in front of the bumper on that.
The 1/4" flat-plating bounces a bit and wouldn't be strong enough to lift the truck: It wants for triangulation to the core support, which wouldn't be difficult to fab.

On the Suburban, the plates are bolted between the hooks and frame. Just use a 1/2" longer bolt. The Tundra, I've yet to go there. But, it looks like he's done exactly the same.

If you’re wondering if you’ll get a response, sure? Is your Tampax on tap side up or are you in general butthurt?
