    Hey Fellas-

So I got my tonneau cover in the mail today and started to remove my bed rails and of course I have a stripped screw that I cannot get our for the life of me. Anyone have any expert advise on how to get the damn thing out? Me and my BakFlip will appreciate it!

Have you tried using drill bits working from small to size of screw with out tearing up threads? Or hardware store for bolt extraction kit?

It looks like the threads are gone. Like someone tried to get the bolt out with a screw drivers and shredded it.

I've run into this at work once or 10 times. I drill an 1/8" pilot hole in the center of the head and work my way up, usually 3/16" and then 1/4". 1/4" is usually enough to take the head off. Then you can remove the cargo rail and turn the rest of the bolt out with vice grips.

M6 x 1.0 is the bolt size if you need to get a replacement.

I tend to do this as well but use left hand bits instead... more often than not, the drill bit will grip the stripped screw/bolt and work it loose - if it doesn't... end result is the same as yours. I have a set of cheapo Harbor Freight LH Bits for doing just this...

i found the largest drill bit I had and drilled away. The head of the screw came right off and I removed the rest with needle nose pliers. Thank God.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Much appreciated.
