Are the HID headlights worth the expense over the stock headlights? If so any suggestions on which brand is the best?

Definitely worth the expense. I did it within a week of owning my new tundra. Stock lights are horrible, especially if you have ever driven with HID headlights.
I used Spencer, his email is kouki240sx@att.net he will send you a bunch of examples that he has done to help you decide what exactly you want.
Mine came out perfect with Lexus RX350 hids.

I don't know him personally I am just a customer. I found him while I was roaming the HID forums and glad I did.

I assume you are talking retrofits? If so then definitely. If you are just talking bulbs, not so much.

Drop hid bulbs in your stock lights? No no no
Aftermarket hid projectors headlight assemblies? I hear spyder are good. Other brands not so much

@Pudge summed it up pretty well. Retros are expensive but were worth it to me. I've got better light, no more cars flashing me and what I think is a cool, unique look. The stock headlights produce too much scatter and cars were frequently flashing their high beams at me. There are some new LED projectors available now for retrofitting as well.

Any suggestions on specific units for a 17 CM Platinum that is dark grey in color?
