Been one of the dryest summers ever down here. We have all been pretty nervy, as wildfires are fairly common for us. We have had two monsters in the last two decades that have done a lot of damage, including several homes.

Got word that a wildfire broke out about 20 miles from us around noon today. Latest report says it is up to about 10 acres now. Frak. Luckily we have some rain in the forecast for the weekend. Hopefully that will help.

That sucks! It is becoming a common theme for us, in our neck of the woods.

Pretty much ever summer there is smoke in the air. But we haven't had one super close to us for a while.

Luckily it's still early, July is when we worry. A few fires around but it's still green and slow going.

This one is creepy because from where we are, it looks like the same position as the Los Conchas fire in 2011.
That one started in June as well and torched 43,000 acres on the first day.

When we went trail riding a few weeks ago, some freaking meat missiles left their camp site with the coals still burning. Luckily we rolled up on it and poured water on it then buried them.

It is crazy how many times that happens. We went into Stage 3 forest restrictions (i.e. - you can't even enter the forest at all) after the Memorial Day weekend (we were in stage 2 prior to that). The forest service said that they had to extinguish 84 campfires over the weekend. Freaking 84 campfires!!!! WTF? And the scary thing is that those are the ones that they found. Who knows how many were not found....

Freaking meat missiles can't read, they just waste air and lick windows.

It is beautiful here. I love where I live.

But don't tell anyone. Most people think of NM as a barren, nasty desert - and I like it that way. Keeps the crowds down. ;)

I grew up in Colorado up near Silverthorne. Still have family up there and love to visit.

Southwestern CO is still one of my favorite places in the world. We spend a lot of time up there.
Getting to be too many people, though.

It's my favorite also, what keeps me here near the Springs is work and my folks retiring close by.

Sorry to hear about this. So many fires going on right now.

I’m glad the fines for burning in fire ban areas went up to 1000.00 in CO.

I’m glad we don’t have any going out here on the plains, but I think there’s a few burning in the mountains. Where ya at in NM @Atomic City Tundra ?

Looks like it was caused by lightning. Good news is the forecast is for some heavy rainfall starting tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Tim, I'm from about an hour NW of you in WA. I keep an eye on the weather during the summer as my dad is a farmer and not far from the reservations, etc.... We've had some pretty good fires and stuff up that way as well.

No worries. Trinity only opens twice a year. I have worked here for about 17 years and I still haven't made it down there - the open weekends always seem to land on times I am busy. I would like to go.

Up to 426 acres. Not progressing nearly as quickly as ones in the past - that is good. Wind has been low and rain is starting to fall as well. Type 3 team is on scene. They have also been hammering it from the sky with tanker planes.
