So here is my issue. The house I have has a septic tank. Recently when we flush the toilet the kitchen sink gurgles. From what I've read there is air trapped somewhere in the pipes. This started a couple of weeks ago during all the rain we had in this area. Thinking I'm going to need a plumber to check it out.

    Any thoughts?

Waste lines should have air in them. Only the p-traps retain water to prevent nasty gases from entering the home. Sounds like there may be a low spot in the waste line that isn't draining and creats a vacuum when filled by a relatively large volume (tiolet)

I haven’t dealt with a lot of septic systems. Are the roof drains or area drains tied in to the septic? Do you have some type of leach pit? Something could be obstructing the vent on the kitchen causing it to suck air from the trap when you flush the toilet. Does it cause the kitchen sink back up? Are your showers draining properly as they are the lowest point?

When is the last time your tank was pumped? I saw what the rain did to the DFW area, your soil is likely saturated and the leach field can't keep up with your tank.

Is your laundry drain line tied in to the house or does it run off to the yard?

Also, could you get a pic of the pipes under that sink? If it doesn't have a trap, or if the trap is dry then some noises make sense.

Just realized you may not be talking drains. Do you mean when you run the kitchen faucet and somebody flushes the toilet, the faucet sputters?

it's time to pump your tank.
hopefully your drain field is not clogged..
your septic pumper will clean / inspect the baffles in the tank
then tell you if a new drain field is required.

a weak drain field will work until the ground gets saturated with rain.. then what your experiencing happens
save your money on plumber he will charge a trip fee to say "pump your tank"

how old is the drain field?

    Flux capacitor!
Do you know what type of septic system you have? If you have an aerobic system, you will have a spray head like a sprinkler. If you have a conventional septic, you will have a leach field, which is under the ground. If you have a newer aerobic septic system, you will have an led light that turn red when your septic is full or requires maintenance. How old is your home? I would check the septic system first. Then if that gets ruled out, then I would have a plumbing company who has a video camera to inspect your waste lines. Hopefully it’s not a broken waste line, tree root in the line or a belly in the line either. I hope this information helps you figure out what’s wrong.

If you have an aerobic system you should have an alarm panel similar to this. Some areas in Texas will not allow a conventional septic with leach field anymore.

Didn’t realize we had plumbers on here. Could have used some advice a month ago. Had water leaking in the walls and running onto the floor.
I kept trying to trace the origin, but never could find it. Had to finally call a plumber in. It turned out to be a cracked line in the slab, which they found after cutting a wall to hell. Luckily it was from just one sink, and they were able to re-route it to another line. They were afraid they’d have to bust my floor up if t didn’t work.

No issues draining in the showers or the sinks. I'm leaning towards the septic tank being full as well. If its not too windy and there is still light I'm going to climb the roof to see the main pipe for debri.

There could possibly be a clean out screen that my be plugged, if you have one it will be between septic tank and the pump tank. When it gets pluged the tank will fill up and start backing up to the house. Also check to see if the incoming pipe to the septic tank is not partially plug wear it enters the tank (ie grease) if you have it pumped out they will check all that and should be done every 4-5 years.

When the toilets flush the sink gurgles. No water or smells coming back in the sink. This started when we we all of that rain hit us a couple of weeks ago. Maybe the ground is too saturated.

Not sure on how old. The house was built in 2008. I got a company that deals with septic tanks coming out this weekend. He's supposed to inspect the system and then tell me if it needs to be drained. I can't find records of when it was last time but I'm guess it's time.

Don't have a spray had head so that rules out the aerobic system. House was built in 2008.

Not sure about a screen but I did see a plug that I think sits between the house and the septic. I'm gonna open that up and then flush the toilet. Hopefully the scene from the movie RV when they're trying to drain the RV doesn't happen.

Yes sir. No formal schooling other than a backflow testing certificate (certified tester) and other BS certifications. 20 years in now. Started out as a young man cutting pipe for my uncle at 14. Officially got a job being a plumber at 18. Mostly remodels and service work in the Southbay. Also I did a lot of camera sewer inspection which became my specialty. We had top-of-the-line equipment. At one point I was doing 4 to 6 camera sewer inspections today. At 2 to 300 $ a pop it was good money for my boss LOL. Just learned from a really good guy who I was with for 15 years. Ventured out into some commercial service/repair work. Servicing Ralph’s supermarket, Kmart, Sears, Macy’s, Right Aid Food 4 Less and smart and final. Was going to start my own company and take over a local guys residential plumbing service company. Got a taste of it and wanted no part of it! Got a job with the government now. Money is steady but not as good as it used to be. But full benefits and retirement. I stay away from side jobs so that I can spend time with my family. I missed too much until 4 years ago.

If you use a lot of water, and it's been raining outside, the septic system can't keep up. It could just be too much water in the septic system at the moment. I had a brand new system back up like that. A couple of days of low use and it was back to normal.
