    I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra - CM - TRD - Flex Fuel - 5.7 - 4x4

and it wont start it turns over and over but wont crank. i replaced the ect sensor since that fixed our other tundra but unfortunately it didn't fix this one :(. We are looking at the fuel pump but we can't find one anywhere they are all out of stock. I need my truck for work ( we have a fence and deck company) and use this truck daily!!! The only other thing that we can think of is the ignition but I don't have any idea how to test that.

Start by trying your spare key if you have one.

Without going through a complicated bunch of checks the simplest troubleshooting thing I would try is see if it will start using some starting fluid. If it does not try to start on starting fluid I would look more closely at the ignition system. If it does try to start on starting fluid I would start looking at the fuel system.

A quick look at the fuses would not be a bad idea either.

    Check pump relay and fuse.

Sometimes the pump relay and the AC relay are the same, you can swap it out real quick and try to start it. Check first though.

Strange attitude for a dealer. Not that part about them not knowing what's wrong, but that part about refusing to attempt diagnosis because it's not under warranty. Maybe ya'll have a failure to communicate.

Take it to another "competent" dealer. Your truck is a Flex Fuel. The diagnosis may require use of Techstream to find the problem if the ECM is not properly computing the ethanol content of gasoline. Toyota has discontinued the Flex Fuel feature on new trucks because it was a pain for owners and dealers.

Make sure the DRL fuse is good as well. The DRL fuse will keep it from starting.

the dealer knows me and knows that i cant afford to pay for it to just sit there and they said just for them to look at it was gonna be $200 and to flash the ecm was gonna be $300 plus depending on what was wrong with it. the dealer was just trying to help me out in telling me not to bring it in... she was telling me that if i brought it in that it could get as high as $1000-1500

If you have a TSB print out of the flex fuel issue for your model year, they gotta do the flash for free 99..... granted, you have to ensure that is the issue first off... being winter and sorta cold outside odds are it is... look for the TSB regarding this and call corporate and get some backing... hopefully it isn't expired and you should be good to go...

I have the print out of the TSB the dealership said that my truck didn't fall in the parameters of the TSB because we drive to much and its to old. I'm calling toyota today to see if i can get any help from them. We just had a very bad freeze here in houston, tx but the truck ran after the freeze. is there a way to test the fuel pump myself before i spend $700?

My suggestion is call corporate first, and get some headway there.. grab a name and an extension number just in case. a TSB is a TSB, I got my window switch replaced 4 years ago, for a truck that was over a decade old with well over 100k miles on it, closer to 200k, and that was for free99, because it was a TSB.... I struggled with this frame rust TSB with the local dealer, as I was being charged $120 for the free inspection... I called corporate and had them overridden, but at this point they did a half ass job, so I took it elsewhere and got the inspection completed... The only reason I insisted, was because I spent about a year in OKC for training and spent time through the mid-west...

It's unlikely that any average owner will be able to test the fuel pump in any meaningful way IMO. You can try to listen for the pump running when the ignition switch is on, but that just tells you that the pump at least runs.

I would try what @huntertn suggested early: Buy a aerosol can of starter fluid, remove the air filter element, and give a good long shot (3-4 seconds) of starter fluid into the air intake duct. Replace the air filter element, and button up the air cleaner. Then try to start the truck. If the truck attempts to start in some ragged, spitting, misfiring mode, you have a fuel system problem of some kind; it's not getting any fuel. This could include Flex Fuel ECM programming problems.

If the starting fluid has no effect at all on the truck starting (absolutely no cylinder hits), then you likely have an ignition problem, which could include the immobilizer (reason for trying a spare key that you don't have). The classic way of revealing ignition system problems is to remove a spark plug wire and ground near/on the engine to determine if the plug was sparking. I'm not sure how that can be managed on modern engines, but maybe it's simple. (Remove plug/coil assembly and ground the plug casing on the engine?)

The dealer may be trying to help you, but if they can actually define the problem for $200, then you'll know exactly where to start. Knowing where to start would save you valuable downtime. Trying to shotgun the problem with a $700 fuel pump you can't find is not a good strategy. The fact that they told you the price to reflash the ECM ($300) implies to me that they also suspect the problem is with the Flex Fuel programming, because that is usually the only remedy for Flex Fuel problems. A Toyota dealer is your only source (and hope) for Flex Fuel ECM reflash.

Yes. If your front turn signals stay on while the truck is running, those are the DRL's.

I am having the same issue with cold start on my new to my 2013 tundra. I called the local Toyota dealership in my city and they verified by VIN that the flash of the ecm is covered by Toyota for my truck. You might want to have the dealer verify by VIN to see if yours is covered that way as well.
