    Hi all...

I need some advice on sources for paint to black out my chrome grill. I've considered on replacing, but after a few fails I'm pivoting to just painting it. I have a HVLP sprayer and I am proficient on the air brush as well. I'm in search of a small amount (<quart) of black metallic and a clear coat. Any good sources?

    Thanks in advance!

I’d just go with Duplicolor 8oz. rattle cans. They have a Toyota Black as well as other metallic blacks to choose. Most auto stores carry them.

I’ve used a couple of their colors with great success. Its an Acrylic Lacquer with an adjustable spray nozzle. Pro results.

    This ^^^^.

I also have a high-quality Sata HVLP gun and a small touch-up gun gathering dust in a drawer. For the small job you're describing, buying bulk professional products makes no sense. By the time you buy a pint of compliant automotive paint, catalyst, and reducer you'll be out maybe $200. If you know how to spray with an HVLP gun, you can still achieve excellent results with quality rattle cans for probably one tenth the cost. Been there, done it...much easier to do small trim items with rattle cans.

SIM Trim Black spray works really well too. Great results on my tow mirrors and windshield cowl.

Okay.. i'm going the route of rattle cans. 320grit, Adhesion Promoter, Primer 1500 grit, base coat, and top coat.
