I once had a '78 or '79 F150 that got stuck on 'cold' so I pulled the lever to 'hot' and left it...so I'm experienced.
But it was on the fenderwell and our Tundras have them on the firewall engine-side. Not much else there...

Check out this video. I have a '10 SR5 with the same issue(s); select knob doesn't do squat, plus no heat even though heater core checks ok.

I just fixed my son's 2004 Tundra that had no heat, so I thought I'd share my steps in case it helps. The vehicle isn't at the house right now, so I'll do my best to describe it.

When you turn the knob on the heat there's a valve on the top of the firewall driver side that turns. I verified that the cable turned the valve before I started any of this. If it doesn't, you can see the cable turning something under the glove box...maybe check to see if that is broken.

The first thing I did was back flush the heater core with water. There are 2 hoses going in to the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle. I removed the hoses from each and attached a garden hose with a piece of 5/8" ID hose on the end of it to the left port, and another piece of hose to the right port led to a 5gal bucket to catch what came out of it (pics of the hose I made below). When I turned on the water a LOT of sludge that came out of it. I ran about 5gal worth of water through it before the water was clear, and the chunks stopped coming out.

I cranked it and got it to operating temp, and the heat still didn't work.

I then checked the hoses that were before and after the valve that the heater control turns. It's in line with the same hose that went in to the firewall, further towards the drivers side. Both of the hoses before AND after the heater valve were 100% clogged with what can best be described as a 15" long dog poop. I ran water through each of them until they were clear.
After that I decided to flush and replace all of the coolant. I drained and added distilled water to it twice, and filled it back up with the Red antifreeze mix...not sure if that matters, but I wasn't taking any chances after seeing all the crap in there.

Heater works great now. The clogged lines coming out of the engine going towards the heater core and clogged heater core were the culprit.

    Hope this helps.

I can post pics of the engine hoses and mixer valve mentioned if anyone needs them after my son gets home from school. Just let me know.
