Greetings from the great white north. Thank you for the add. I am a soon to be new Tundra owner! Waiting for my 2021 Tundra Pro Lunar Rock to be delivered to my dealer. Trading in my 2017 Tacoma sport. I never thought I would ever be in a position to own a Tundra and definitely not a Pro. Very excited! Looking forward to spending countless hours on this thread and going broke modifying my truck!

Howdy from across the big lake, rural Thunder Bay, ON. New member myself, just got mine a couple weeks ago, an SR5 long box. First Toyota, enjoying it, only 300km so far, still waiting on the seat covers to arrive.

They had a lunar rock pro at the local dealer when i ordered mine easter monday. Couldn't justify the extra $22k for the instant gratification, but did eye it up a lot over a few weeks it was there. lol. Enjoy yours when it arrives.

Thanks Ken. Enjoy your new truck! Are you going to rust proof (krown) it ? My dealer is undercoating mine and recommend NOT taking it to Krown. He said Krown no longer sprays between the door panels because of all the sensors and air bags in the doors.

 

Mike, I used rustcheck, bought a pail of it, the thicker amber, a couple years ago, still have 4 gallons or so. I've used fluidfilm in the past, it was good too, just harder (read more expensive) to get now that the borders been closed, and i can't just pop across to get it delivered in Minnesota. Although, i'd like to try the new PB stuff, surface-shield i think it's called, it looks good, just not sold anywhere except home depot in the US, not even mail order it seems. I do think it's best to get onto it at the beginning, and keep on it. I bought both of my 3/4 tons used, one was 2 years old, but it rotted away anyway, even though i tried to wash, and spray it down in fall, and spring. I almost think the rustcoating didn't help any rust that already started and effectively sealed it off, but it just kept rusting under it somehow. Maybe the recycled steel already was full of impurities, and nothing was going to save it.

I have my own hoist, so used the "coat and protect" and sprayed it pretty liberally underneath, maybe 1/2 gallon, and will check it over again just before the road salt get used, and maybe retouch anything that looks light. Still have my rusty f250's on the road, a '96, and '07, and will keep at least one of them road worthy into the future, one has my plow, the '96, so it'll be used on the messiest days for a few years yet. I work on our local municipal road crew, so i'm usually out in the worst of the weather even before the highway plows. My plan for the Tundra, is that it's to be dependable back up plan, just in case nothing else wants to go, but i still have to, so will use it if needed too.

Anyway, I did spray in the door bottoms, the lighter red stuff, used the spray bomb cans, but only through the drains in the bottom, until it ran out again, wasn't really much. Didn't even think about air bags and such in the doors. They do claim that rustcheck was safe for any electronics, but maybe it'll react poorly with other stuff.

 

Thanks Ken. All the mechanics I've talked to have always said to spray it with Krown. Which is why I'm confused that the dealer is saying not too. My '17 Tacoma probably has the same sensors as a tundra and there's been no problems over the last 4 years using Krown. I've reached out to the Krown dealer in Sault STE Marie with questions. At the very least, I'll buy a couple of spray cans from them and do what you did and spray through the drain holes and the bottom of the doors, areas on the tailgate. Thanks
