The Wife and I just booked our tickets to Ireland for the end of August. Any suggestions on things to see and places to stay? We are flying direct from Hartford CT to Dublin and will be there for 9 days. We would like to travel around a bit and see as much as possible.

If you have the time... Achill Island. I've never been there but have ordered several sweaters, socks, etc from a small store there. Primarily fishing and wool products and I guess there is a micro brew house there. I want to go there someday. Kieran Sweeney is the guy that would send me my Achill goodies. Best wool sweaters you will ever get anywhere. Socks too.

I haven't been but one of my brothers has. Based on what he told me, search out little off the path pubs and try the beer, can be quite an adventure. Don't pretend to be what you're not. Tell em you're an American tourist and interested in trying their best local brew.

Has potential for some trouble if you're not sure where the catholic/Protestant line is drawn.

Go with the flow. Be a Catholic in the South, Protestant in the North. Easy...

My wife and I spent 12 days there this past September. we flew into Dublin rented a car a drove almost 1800km. Guinness tour in Dublin as well as The Book of Kells. Jameson tour in Middleton is a great tour. Minutes outside of a little fishing village called Kinsale is a memorial to the firefighters from 911. It is a must see. I will look up the info and get it to you.

Here is the link to the 911 memorial.

Kinsale is a quaint fishing village that really is a must see for part of a day. We ate at a restaurant called Fishy Fishy which came highly recommended from locals all around the country.

We visited the memorial on Sept 10 of last year. We did not know about it or would have scheduled our stay there for the 11th. There is a tree planted for each of the firefighters lost on 911. It is up on a hill in a very quiet country setting. I felt as if I was at Arlington or other National cemetery.
