Do you folks think Toyota overproduced the Cement color? I seen quite some folks saying that they spot one a lot more often than usual on the streets. I’d like to hear some feedback.

    thank you!

It’s the best color, so it makes sense that manufacturers will copy it. Between the Tundras, there is a slight difference in color from the initial release of the 17 Pro and the 18 Cement.

Most colors have different shades. The Barcelona has about 13 different variances.

    Function before sparkle.
Less colors = reduced cost and potentially higher quality. Looking back in history, Toyota used to be the opposite. Many, many color choices over a short period.

Yep. The body shop showed me the match cards when I had some stuff painted when I had my 2013.
My wife has a 2020 4runner and my truck is a 2020 and mine is darker than hers.

Based on what I see around here I say no, cement is not overproduced. I rarely see one.

Due to differing lots of paint more than anything.

One thing I learned from 23 years working on off set printing presses, is no matter how good your ink mixes are, the same color from differing lots will be a shade off. You can manually adjust the tub by adding other colors but you will never get a exact match.

Also the only way to match a color with a swatch or sample is outside in natural sunlight. No LED, floresecents, outside real sun light. And everyone sees shades differently.

Maybe it’s just because lunar rock is out and it’s very similar to cement but this years cement color looks more “silvery” to me as oppose to years prior.

I agree on the silver part. Depending on lighting conditions i mistake Cement for SSM sometimes.

When I bought mine in May, only one dealer in KC had cement Tundras. They had two identical cement Limiteds. I bought one of them.
I’ve only seen a couple cement tundras, but I have been working at home since March.

Check the build link in my signature.
I dunno... that’s like asking if they overproduced MGM, or Silver, or Black, or White. It’s a paint color, and when they released it they were somewhere in the middle of the pack for companies introducing the muted “flat gloss” colors (like Subaru was doing with the CrossTrek and a few others had introduced as well). Their goal is to sell more trucks, and that color above all other “flat” colors seems to have really appealed to buyers that didn’t want the “regular” or “metal flake” colors... especially after they moved it to the mainstream lineup instead of just the TRD Pro.

Does it seem like every third truck is cement now? Around me, I see (or notice) far more Tacos that color, but still also see a good number of Tundras. I still see a metric shit-ton more in black, white, and MGM... and far less in cavalry, barcelona, and quicksand or even silver and brown. I’ve only ever seen one voodoo or inferno, and only a couple army green.

So it doesn’t quite hold the status of “exclusive” colors that it did when it was first introduced in the Pro, but I wouldn’t call that overproduced so much as Toyota cashing in on something that people wanted. :notsure:

It’s just parts like end caps, Not the body. I’ve seen the difference, we both have seen something different.

I really like the cement color and take notice when I see one. Here in Tampa Bay I haven’t seen that many, when I do it’s more often a Tacoma.

I think cement is VERY popular for Tacomas. I see two or three every week. I've only seen one other cement Tundra on the road in the past month.

To me cement looks like they just clear coated over primer. Great way for Toyota to save a few bucks and skip the base coat process. :D

Just a different primer color used for a different base coat.
