Hello guys, my tire dealer told me I could run 295 55 20 tires on my stock rims and not rub.

Can anyone confirm this? I want to buy Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

    Thanks!

What year is your truck? I’m curious for an answer I’m sure there has to be some rubbing and removal of flaps

@Razorwyre damn 295 no rub stock wheels..we have the same set up as far as offset and rims. I thought For sure a 295 would have slight rub. Did you remove flaps or do any trimming?

yeah, that's the size that I want to try for my next set. when I was getting my oil changed at the dealer a while back, I did see a tundra with 295/60/20 ridge grapplers on a 20x9 +50mm offset wheel. the tire was VERY close to the UCA, however.... but it did clear. some plastic will have to be manipulated for that tire to clear.

I'm gonna bet it's too close. I will be doing the 3-1 lift with Bilsteins and 285/65/20 KO2s. No body mount trimming required but will have to pull the inner fender extensions according to the shop that had done many. I had a picture of a truck with this lift and tire combo but must have deleted it.

Nice to see another N. LA on here!
I have been debating on the 285/65 or 285/60/20's to put on mine. I was thinking about getting bumper shims and trying the 285/65.

Essentially they are spacers for your bumper. Typically, they will push your bumper out from the truck about 1/2 inch. This will give your tires more clearance and may eliminate the need to trim any plastic on the front of the wheel well near the bumper. Some companies have made kits for this, but others have just used washers. There are posts and pictures about this mod on this site.

Boss4x4s and Coachbuilder have plates you can get that are used as shims like Netmonkey said. I haven't really studied up on them enough yet to know if it would be easier than mod'ing the fender wells or using the bumper shims.

Well, I did the Nitro 3/1 leveling kit. Tried the 5100s but on lowest setting it jacked the front 4.5". Went back with stock front shocks and 5100s on rear. Didn't pick it up until late last night. Not liking the camber and will be getting it checked. 285/65/20s mounted.
Added: The tires rub the skid plate at full lock, looking at RCI or others, Can bend it out of the way pretty easily. Front and rear skirts/flap removed from front well.

if you got over 4" of lift with the 5100's, then you put the spring perch on upside down.

Had my 5100's all around installed last night and got the 2.5" lift on the middle setting with 2 shims on each side. The back on mine came out higher than expected with a full 2" of lift using the Toyotech shackle set at 1.5" setting.

My dealer told me the same but after searching here...I found conflicting opinions. Decided to stick with 285/55/20 to play it safe. It was a service tech I flagged down at my local dealership and asked him but he didn't sound 100% sure in his response. He ended up saying yes 295/55/20 would fit with no rubbing so maybe he was right. I was not buying the tires from them otherwise I could have tried it and it would have been on them if there was issues.

Was the local 4WP that did the install with both the 3" spacer and the 5100s. They said couldn't make them work together. I wanted 3" and they said the spacer was the way to go as the 5100s alone would only go 2.5.

wow... that is surprising. lifts should never be stacked. either do spacers or the 5100's, but not both.

Wow. Gotta love when a shop downgrades you and totally installs components on a persons truck completely wrong. Sorry. But you’re not supposed to stack lifting components together. One or the other or get exactly what you need to properly lift the truck 4”.

Yep, while I wouldn't call it a downgrade but would like the Bilsteins up front. I consider it a fuckup on my part. I'm new to lifting and am fairly busy in my work so I just basically said, I want 3" and Bilsteins. Lesson learned. I'm sure I will eventually end up with a Toyotec kit or something.

Really all you need is a shim or two on each side with the 5100's to get you around 3". Look up coachbuilder shims or boss4x4s shims. 1 shim = 1/2" lift and goes on top of the strut/coil assembly, you can do 2 shims max. I set my 5100's in the middle setting with 2 shims so I am at 2.5" lift in the front.

You could have easily got 3” with the 5100 and a shim. The ride will suffer a bit due to the compressed stock spring. But people do it all the time. You can always upgrade to the 6112s at top setting which is 2.75” and do a small shim. Would ride a lot better but you’ll be at the upper limits of adjustment on your UCA. Toytec is always a good option. But I personally went with the 6112s and am extremely happy with how the truck rides.

I am learning myself, but a shim is only 1/4" thick plate (equals 1/2" lift), and somehow it is viewed different than stacking components.

@r1-superstar just installed his 5100's at the highest setting with 2 shims driver side and one shim passenger side (due to truck lean). He can tell you about the ride difference from middle to top setting since he had both.

I really like how mine on the middle setting with 2 shims rides, and I have only had them on since Monday night.

I haven't decided on tires just yet but debating on the 295/55r20, 285/65r20, or play it safe and go 285/60r20. I have the stock TSS rims with the +50 offset with stock KO2's in 285/55r20. It was raining yesterday so could not get but this pic, will try to get some today.

Edit: Added pic out in driveway to the post.
