I'm also new, I have a 2004 Tundra SR5 step side with 226,000 miles and decided to share my findings. Thank you all for your input on the issues of hard steering as it gave me a starting point importantly with the steering shaft and u joints. After inspection, the u joints were fine, no wear or rust so I kept digging. I found something after looking, turning and feeling that was so small and minut I still can't believe it. It was the connection of the steering shaft, rag joint, to the input shaft of the rack n pinion. The bolt was tight but had a very slight wiggle to it. The bolt was plenty tight, not loose, but I put a wrench on it and snugged it up even more. I test drive it again and no more hard steering or turning. As info to all, hope this helps someone else! Ken
