Welp. A few years ago I got injured when I was checking a gas line and the support boards were not nailed down. Almost fell completely thru the ceiling but caught myself with a face plant and my dominant hand. It tore every ligament in my thumb and was covered by work comp. However, the injury would never heal and the insurance company got tired of paying. I probably should not have settled for the little amount that I received, but I was tired of all the games and pressure from my own self and that of the insurance company. That being said, I still had pain and swelling and could not move my thumb. Finally I found a doctor that cared and we tried all sorts of treatments (none worked, but at least he gave a shit about me). Now, 4 years later, I went and had a fusion of the thumb. Anyone ever had a joint fused? Recovery time? He told me that I wouldn't be able to move it, but I couldn't anyways, the pain should go away.

Oof! That's rough. Looks pretty gnarly, but should be a badass scar. I hope it helps the pain, and that it doesn't impede your day to day too badly.

If it relieves the pain the well worth it. :thumbsup:Looks like a Frankenstein hand right now.

Not sure about a fused bone in hand . But.
I've had 5 spinal reconstructive operations . Final one was a fusion from L2 to S1 . Took a little over six months to return to work. And about five years to where I felt like I was as good as I would ever be. It still bothers me . But much better. And I can make an 8 hour day welding again.
I'll be praying for your recovery and health.

Sure hope this helps with the pain on a day to day basis.

I had a pretty gnarly crash on a motocross track doing a heal clicker.

You guessed it, tore the three ligaments in my thumb and broke my wrist. First ortho just didn’t see the issue after 8 weeks of pain. I finally dumped the general ortho and went to a specialist.

Best thing I ever did. He told me if I would have left it for another 6 months, my wrist would have been fused. This was in 1998.

I always thought the motocross riders were just a little crazy. Honestly I think you guys have a screw loose:monocle: but thanks for giving me some hope. You pain free now even after all these years?

Weird, not the first time I’ve heard that....lol

I was totally pain free within a few short months after surgery with physical therapy, and have been since since. I almost have full range of motion as well.

That's terrible. Hopefully you're back to 100% after this procedure heals

I can tell you that happened to my mother when she almost got her index finger severed at the knuckle. Luckily she didn't, but it completely severed the tendon and the doctor told her she could either have it straight or bent, but that it was permanent. She decided to keep it bent since back then she did a lot of typing. To this day we crack up when she forgets and tries to point at something. She doesn't even notice it now..
