Found this little gem today. Passenger side A-pillar
On the upside at least whatever happened did not break glass

Think this can be popped out with paintless dent repair? I have a feeling it can't.

First dent is always the worst!

Doesn't look like it'll be able to be popped out using paintless dent removal.

You never know. Those PDR people can do amazing stuff sometimes. They can even do it without access from behind. It's called the glue technique. Just ask a reputable PDR guy

I'm not a fan of PDR, but if that is the way you wanna go, the tech may be able to remove the A pillar plastic molding and get something in there to pop it out. Some use the suction cup and puller from the outside.

This reminds me to make quick disconnect pins for my windshield frame on the Jeep. I've replaced a "few" of those in the past 20 years.

I can tell you 100 % that paintless dent repair is out of the question....I have been in the auto body trade for 32 years, and that pillar is not accessible due to the inner structure. Sorry to give you bad news. That SUCKS that you don't even know how it happened...And if you take it to a bodyshop, MAKE SURE they take the bed off and paint the ENTIRE roof pillar AND cab corner ....some shops will just melt a clear coat blend into the roof sail panel !!!

Great info. What is your take on PDR and long term ownership of vehicle after PDR has been performed?

A recent wind storm we had caused a dent in my tailgate and it could have probably been fixed with PDR. I went with repair and re-paint.

That's why you glue pull on the pillars

I wouldn't glue pull ANYTHING on my truck...but that's me....to each their own....25 years as a painter...7 years as manager....I don't like glue pulls...would rather fix and paint.

Cant go wrong with fix and paint....Good PDR guy is also fine...Bodyshop should have LIFETIME warranty on repairs...PDR guys come and go...if he leaves the area, you have no way to go back on him for any reason.

His dent on that pillar would be awfully hard to fix with glue pull due to where its at on pillar....but not saying a GOOD pdr guy couldn't do it...I have never seen one PDR'D in a windshield pillar

Thank you for your expert advice. My Tacoma needs 3800.00 in debt repair, and a lot was PDR. Like you, I like repair and finish.

Your welcome....PDR is a good way to go if the PDR guy is good, as it is less invasive to you vehicle !!!...But, like I said earlier, you don't have a guarantee that he will be around for any long period of time. Feel free to message me anytime with body and paint questions bro !!

Ya tough spot for sure personally I'd rather have it glue pulled before I broke the factory paint and repainted it I've seen my buddy pull worse but we're in upstate NY I am also a painter and if the customer didn't want PDR I would just skim coat it and blend above the door so it's more "out of sight" but that's just my opinion

Got to agree with Scott on this one. My buddy had same thing on his chevy and they had to repair it at the shop guy said the metal is to strong in that area to just attempt to pop it out

Lots of great info thanks. I sent my brother pics, he ran claims offices for auto and the fire and theft offices in two states. He said that's a full blown repair and its not going to be cheap, LOL....looks like my truck will have some character for awhile

I feel your pain. A gate post jumped out and destroyed my fender last year. My council would be to have a full repair and paint match done. FWIW. My wife had some similar damage (maybe a little worse) on her truck but on the rear pillar as opposed to the front. Repair ran about $1500.
