Those of us who have noticed the government issued gas can ("PFC" haha) already know that the world is going crazy, shootings, and more... but we are worried about a VENT IN A GAS CAN ?!?!?!? You HAVE to be F'ing joking ... NO, no, you're not. It's law.

I had my first REAL experience with these POS's today. The last several years, sure, I've been frustrated and irritated trying to fill a lawnmower, cussing, flipping birds to California, spilling gas everywhere, but whatever.

So today, I try to take my 20 gallons of emergency fuel and fill my truck, to replace it with new fuel and keep it again...

    Wow. I swear.

The point of this government BS was to "prevent spillage" BUT CAUSES MORE SPILLS. + PLUS, They don't even work in the first place!!!

NO VENT. Yes, this can be corrected, or modified. I get that.
The spouts. WTF. Really ? Un-F'ing Believable...

I know there are mod kits sold on eBay and Amazon or wherever, I get that. But those of us who has USED a "real" gas can don't see the point in this, right ?!?!?!?!?!

It took, literally , 15 minutes to pour 5 gallons of gas in my truck, and this was after I FIRST had to spend an hour (OK, maybe less :) ) to bust out the stupid locking flap from the nozzle, and make an extension with some tube, make a nozzle, sit the can on the toolbox (Because I was tired of HOLDING IT !), and let it bloop, bloop, bloop... bloop . bloop.

    WTF...

So then, not having a vent kit, I took a screw, screwed it in to the top of the can, removed it (For a small vent, that I could replace to re-seal the can) and poured the next 5 gallons, spilling gas everywhere, over and over again, until it finally was empty. The vent (even being THAT SMALL) helped so much, instead of BLOOP BLOOP SPILL SPILL 15 minute process, it was maybe 5 minutes, no bloops, just SPILL... LMFAO.

This has to be a joke.

    WTF.

I tried a newer, redesigned can. Haha. Same POS.

Nozzles are too short, you have to have 4 hands to use them. Be superman. Hold the can for an hour while it spills everywhere.

And if you try to modify, ohhhhhh no no no..... They fail proofed that !!!
Time was spent to engineer, if you modify or cut, or remove anything from that POS spout, it no longer functions or falls apart or leaks. GENIOUS !!!!

Please tell the community how bad California (And GAS CAN) Regulations SUCK.
Sorry California :) ... I've never been there, I'm sure it's nice. But your regulations are beyond ridiculous.

I ABSOLUTLY believe in clean air, pollution control, *NOT* GUN "CONTROL" , but the GAS CAN ?!?! SERIOUSLY ??????

Ohh, excuse me, not gas cans, "PFCs"
    Portable Fuel Containers.

    WTF.

I also used one once and don't anymore you Sir are correct POS. You need some good old VP Racing cans problem solved.

Also I was wondering if you could pour 25 gallons into a vehicle from some of those cans?

I like this thread. When you said 20 gallons of emergency fuel without a vent I assumed you took the week off from work!

I have one good vented can and three garbage "save the whales cans": I use a funnel to pour those into my vented can which I then pour into my car/trucks. It may seem like extra steps, but saves so much time and I don't have to take a shower afterwards to avoid becoming a walking molotov cocktail.

Should've made this a poll... What's worse: non-vented gas can or the stock tundra head unit.

I feel your pain on the gas can front:annoyed:

Plastic gasoline cans are actually total bs, but they tend to be a self-correcting product.

Blitz used to sell nice simple little plastic gas cans at Walmart. An intelligence-challenged user managed to spill gasoline all over his lawn mower and himself and set himself on fire. The family sued Blitz out of business, and giant Walmart settled.

I still have a couple, but once I am forced to buy replacement spout valves that are accepted as environmentally friendly, but leak fuel all over the equipment, I'll toss them. I now use them only as temporary storage during high demand months, and use the Eagle Type I metal can below for fueling. In the PRC, you may need the Type II mentioned above by @Festerw. Twenty gallons is a lot of "portable" fuel to keep in your garage, but you're probably OK if you're smart about it.

A while back I had one that had a locking lever that would close its self when released. If I had installed a vent on that bad boy it would have been the best gas can I've ever used. I like the self closing feature that I can control, not the one nowadays where you have to jam the nozzle into the edge of whatever your filling and some show release the lock tab... redonkulous.

Yup and that is why I took the damn thing apart to remove it (the lock tab), stuck a 3/4" flexible conduit on it, and stuck a filer tip in the end... This locking tab BS idea is beyond ridiculous ....

Old school Jerry, Nato can from your local Army Surplus store, get a wide funnel. Life is good.

    Excellent rant.

You have to remember these people who make these rules have never actually used the devices they force on us. Can you see some of those people in Washington cutting their own grass? We know Rand Paul did but you see what that got him...(not getting political I swear!)

And where do I find in the Constitution were we the People or the State has given the Federal Government the power to dictate what sort of can we put fuel in?

yeah, perfect .gov solution. They market this stuff as pollution savings when its really all about the insurance companies. We really need Darwin's theories to play out sometimes.

YES, if you are stupid enough to try to light your bonfire by pouring gas out of a 5 gallon can...... go for it.
YES, if you are stupid enough to store your gas cans right next to your hot water heater....
YES, if you are not careful cans can fall over and spill/drip all over...... no need to clean up your work space or garage.
YES, you can run your turkey fryer in the garage because its too cold outside.... it makes the house smell good too.

The GOVERNMENT is here to take care of you. Well mostly here to stop you from doing stupid stuff that cause insurance claims that then have to be paid out.

And before anyone complains that all the things listed above happen I'm going to tell you that that I've personally seen all the above happen and more. MOST of folks it happened to take responsibility for it at some level. A few are still in the "they shouldn't let that happen" denial. Regardless, we can't keep dumbing down life. I just saw a report on the news that you are MORE likely to be hurt in the rear passenger seats of a car in a major accident than in the front due to all the air bags and such. Think about what that is going to cost us.
