That is basically new, 5k miles. Nice truck. I would however wonder why someone dumped it being new and with such little mileage. Little sketchy when someone dumps a vehicle with ultra low miles. There are only a few reasons someone spends a ton of $ on a new vehicle and then takes another hit to get rid of it- they had problems with it and got sick of dealing with it, they could not afford it, maybe it would not tow enough so they moved to a HD truck.

The price is about what you could purchase new for, if you can find a new one that you like.
I would rather purchase new vs that truck at that price. And you may actually be better off payment wise on new vs used.

Nothing beats the new car smell...

I agree with what @frichco228 said, with that low mileage you have to wonder why the previous owner wanted to get rid of it. On top of that, I don't think the price is great; you may be able to negotiate it down, but the ask is too close to the new purchase price.

I say this, but you do you...if this is what you want and what works for your budget, then go for it. You'll get no judgement from me!

Could have been a dealer demo, selling as used, seen it happen before.

Could have, but that would definitely keep me away from it. That means the 5K miles on it were driven by people who couldn't care less about the vehicle.

The carfax looks like someone bought it in May, and traded it off after the first service. Does seem odd, but I think Carfax will usually show repeat trips to dealer if there were problems that would be covered under warranty.

I will say, my brother once traded a truck with less than 1,000 miles on it. He was buying a new camper and planning to tow it from AR to AK. Gave dealer the trailer specs, and they sold him on a 3/4 ton gasser. He got about 500 miles into the trip (stopped at our parents house), and realized he didn't have enough truck. So he traded it for a 1 ton diesel before continuing on his way.

Carfax shows it was bought at one dealer, serviced at another, then put up for sale at a 3rd? Typically, a demo is sold by the dealer that was using it, right?

Another thought, because I bought mine in March - they were having hella deals to keep sales going as Covid was starting to affect businesses. I got a decent discount plus 0% for 72 months on mine.

Then later in the summer I start reading all the posts about people being offered more on trade than they paid for their trucks as production supply dipped and demand remained strong. Maybe they made a few bucks after 6 months of ownership?

Not always, dealer demos I have always seen around here are driven by either the owner of the dealership or managers at the dealerships.

the 2015 blue ribbon metallic crew max I had was a dealer demo, the owner of the dealership drove it around. He was driving a TRD Pro a awhile back, his wife a Land Cruiser. Just all depends.

Check the build link in my signature.
That’s my guess. I know a few people that have done that.

The price isn’t amazing though, and you can get a brand new one for about the same. If it was a TOYOTA certified used, then I might consider it because the Toyota CPOs come with almost a better warranty than the new ones do (on certain parts anyway). But otherwise, I’d lean toward new in the current market.

To the OP, if you like it and find the price to your liking, I would give it a chance. See if they would allow an extended test drive over a weekend so you could try to sniff out any potential issues. If all is solid, go for it. Maybe see if you could work in a good deal on an extended warranty to "calm your concerns" over why it might have been traded with so little use?

Just because it has low miles isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I buy a new car about once a year or so and the last 3 I sold privately had less 3k miles each and each also a year old. I just have a work vehicle that allows me to rack up miles and my personal cars are for pleasure only. Sadly I don’t have a ton of free time so my vehicles get driven very infrequently.

while low miles can sometimes be a negative thing, many times it’s for other reasons. Many people get boated (like me) and move on to a new car quickly.

It's all irrelevant since it's still under the factory 3/36. Certified gets you shit, since it's running at the same time as the factory 3/36. The quick trade in wouldn't bother me at all. If you have concerns, buy the extended through Wolverine within the next 2.5 years.

I would definitely check out the new first. If your going to look at the new, you need to move quickly because the inventory is going to get VERY limited. All of the new Tundra models are all ready becoming hard to get.

The best salesman at a local dealer here goes into work 2 hours before the other guys and he works the drive while people are waiting for service. “Hey, nice truck, I’d like to buy it from you.”
He sells a lot of Toyota’s

Buying that truck for their asking price and then purchasing an extended warranty on top of it would put you well over the cost of what you could buy a new truck for. My question would be why isn’t this certified pre owned - only 5000 miles and there is no CPO status on the truck? Something seems odd about it - personally I would continue a search for a brand we truck at that price.

First off he is asking $41,8XX. I doubt he expects that price. He expects you to negotiate.

If the truck is what you want, I would have it checked out. But as pointed out, the truck is covered under Toyota warrantee.

Price a new truck. See if the difference is worth the price. I happen to be one of those that wanted my truck exactly the way I wanted it and couldn't find it used. So I purchased new.

Likely because it’s at a Ford dealer. They could give you their 12/12000 warranty for CPO but know that it’s still under the factory warranty, which means nothing to them.

It's at a Ford dealer. The guy probably bought the truck and drove it for 5,000 miles, hating the MPGs so he traded it in on an Ecoboost F150. Poor guy.

But back to the question. I would rather buy new. You getter better finance rates, you know you have a new vehicle, full factory warranty, dealers usually throw in a few free oil changes etc....

I would figure a price on that truck that is worth it to buy used for you. If the dealership will hit that price than get it. If not, look new. I would have to have at least 4000 off that price to offset lower finance rate on new truck and 5,000 miles. When I bought my 2020, the truck I wanted used was about 2,000 difference around Md. Not worth it to me to buy used at that difference. I love that Cement though.

Dealer only offered me $11,400 for my truck (2007 with 41,000 miles). So decided Ill just keep it for now and dump some more money on mods since I dont have any truck payments.
