Same here, but only planning to go 35's from 34's on my next tires. We do a lot of highway miles on trips and I like to keep the revs down. 4.30's, 34's, and a Harrop 80mm and I feel like I have plenty of torque, hell, too much without AWD in the wet.

Glad those shifts 4-5 are working out. I believe the AI/cruise portion will lock up 4th. I'll see it sometimes when I'm data logging.

@ZPhilip shared the link in the gear thread you can get the rear bearing kit for 400. ECGS has the front for 382 after applying the 15% off code. Add 170 for the gears, and you just got an entire gear package for under 1000 bucks. That’s at least 450 bucks cheaper than I have ever seen an entire package sold for, and that was probably pre stupid inflation era.

    More pics.

valve body leak test revealed 50% leak.
They're rebuilding today and will have the transmission fully assembled this evening for installation tomorrow. They had all new bolts, pan, gasket, etc in house already.

This begs the questions, are the materials in the valve body inadequate and/or is the WS fluid too thin for good protection.

@carn_dogg Did they find any broken parts, or is it all worn-down parts and burnt clutches?

    Too many mods to come

Im wondering if it makes sense to also throw in new shift solenoids while it's all apart? @Jowett do you have part numbers for those? I may toss in some fresh ones.

This is what I have for solenoid #s, please double check. Don’t be surprised if they are expensive through Toyota USA.

I thought about that too when I was swapping to the built VB. I just did a quick ohm check and applied power to see that they worked. I also attempted to clean them as best I could. Some are a bit spendy.

Fwiw, when I replaced a solenoid 2 years ago, I spend the $ for a Toyota part, only for it to made by the same company that was on Amazon for like 35.

Toyota USA is VERY expensive on most parts when compared to Japan. Occasionally, something here is actually cheaper, but not the norm.

@VWTim good info if they are legit parts.

According IPT the VB is the weakest point in our transmission. The accumulators and shift ports dont seal well and wear out. The use of Trans Go or Sonnex kits by level 10 and IPT are in the built VB's.
Also keeping the fluid on the cool side under 200 deg help with longevity.

I had planned to just do a Sonnax zip kit+, but with 190K I'm now thinking of a IPT valve body to help limp my transmission along.

I have the Sonnax Zip Kit and Line Booster that I need to install before pushing snow this season, never mind the requirements of that Supercharger sitting on the shelf.

A new valve body with bores properly honed, then anodized, and a proper fluid would greatly increase the life of these things.

Cool fluid = thicker oil film, especially with the group III oil base most of the fluids are manufactured with.

Fwiw, Nachi is the OEM for at least the S4 solenoid. I paid $200 for it to be in a Toyota bag but appears Nachi is available aftermarket.. unsure if anyone is going far enough to clone them.

    But for $57... https://www.amazon.com/Pithsdp-3524...732210595&sprefix=35240-50050,aps,294&sr=8-11

My biggest hesitation is how many counterfeit parts I've seen come from Amazon. Personally I've been sent several - and GOOD counterfeits, at that. After getting burned several times on fakes, the extra cost for a genuine part is just insurance for assurance. Have you been able to find them anywhere besides Amazon? Asking genuinely, not argumentatively.

Your absolutely correct, lots of good counterfeits out there. I thought I also found them in a misc brand box from Napa, but I may be mixing it up with LBJ's.

But if you're doing the work yourself, a $150/unit savings may be worth a gamble.

After getting bad spark plugs from Amazon and dealing with multiple misfires where new plugs from the parts store cured the issue.
I'm hesitant but have taken a gamble on some parts.
Recently had my chinesium 80 amp relay for $15 melt on my e-fan.

Is there a Nachi part number?
