Just wanted to give a heads up for everyone that tows or hauls heavy loads with their Tundra - I replaced the Entune head unit with a Kenwood in order to get wireless CarPlay and as a bonus I learned Kenwood has a gauges app that lets you tap into the OBD system and get instantaneous read outs for items like transmission fluid temperature, coolant temp, engine load, etc. See pic below. It also has programming to give you 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

So you simply had to tap a wire from new stereo to your obd or did you add maestro?

Only one choice for transmission temp. Here is the full list of options for the gauges. The ones with an “x” in front are not available.7A6C326B-0432-48F8-A8ED-C1707D9C4408.jpg D36AF130-9914-4DE4-9FE1-E278324A2607.jpg 324E3EDB-E217-4E64-9744-404C03911710.jpg 7477F17F-F1EC-4321-923E-E1318F3A9FFE.jpg F5F8C3B7-572F-486D-A7C2-0974EF42DC28.jpg 132536BA-8B98-40A2-9F27-F5FCF2DDB781.jpg

I got my kenwood(dmx9706s) installed by a local a shop and has steering wheel control as well. However, I do not see any gauges available? I’ve got a ‘14 SRT

Maybe they didn’t run the OBD wire to the wiring harness? Do you have a Gauges app show up in your head unit? Everything you need comes with the TO2 wiring harness from Maestro. You can see the OBD connector in the picture from Maestro linked above.

I think on mine, they must have used something other than maestro. I have the gauges app on my pioneer, but can’t “select” it.

There is an OBD connector that allows you to have gauges displayed on the kenwood. It only has one wire connected to it (brown color) I believe but it’s part of the meistro wiring.

I’ve got the same issue as jrharvey. The gauges icon can’t be selected. May have to take the truck back in and let them check it out. Thanks!

they have 2 options usually at stereo shop for the steering wheel controls: either the nicer Maestro with OBD II or just the steering wheel controls with an AXXESS module (the one I have). Maybe you guys got the cheaper version.

If you guys are running Android phones, I did a writeup on using Torque Pro, OBD2 for AA, and an ELM-bluetooth adapter to get gauges in your dash via Android Auto. https://www.tundras.com/threads/torque-pro-on-android-auto.56661/

I was going to bite the bullet and get an iDatalink MRR and rewire everything until I figured this out.

Yep, that’s what I was told. Wished they had explained this to me earlier before the install was completed.

I assumed steering wheel controls meant maestro with OBD. Would’ve been nice to have those extra features. Oh well, the kenwood has been awesome. Thanks for the clarification!

Sunuvabitch, that’s what a “free” install must get you. I’m pretty sure I’ve came across the AXXESS module when running wire behind my dash. To replace with maestro would be a shit ton of work?

It would take a whole rewire to get the gauge controls if you’re already wired in with the AXXESS module?

not necessarily. the Axxess is cheap and requires pressing couple buttons to select HU manufacturer but it's very easy to install. It only controls basic commands for the music. You can always have it removed and install maestro after.

here is the device on Amazon:

Like @TheBeast said, not necessarily. I used the Crux SWC module recommended by Crutchfield for my install, and I'd have to go back and look at the install guide to see if I'd need to rewire anything. I think the more anxiety inducing part of it for me would be sorting out the clusterfuck of wires I zip-tied together when I shoved everything back into the dash.

Question for you guys with the Maestro - do you get compass and music info in the dash/heads up screen or is that still blank when you flip to those panels?

I have the Edge CTS2 unit and it reads 2 trans temps, one of them is the torque converter temp. I like having all the fluid temps displayed, especially when towing.

That seems right. Amazon has the Maestro RR for $109 and the TO2 harness for $33. Not sure if those are good prices as James bundled everything with the head unit.

Also worth mentioning, you can activate the rear camera at anytime by pressing the Cam button on the head unit.

Those are good prices, I just called car toys about swapping out and they quoted me $150 for Maestro Install, $169 for the maestro, $30 for something else. $350ish, ugh.

If they didn’t chop up your stock harness it wouldn’t be difficult to install yourself. Took me about an hour after reading the instructions several times and going slow.

This is to you and the others with knowledge of Kenwood HU's...

This is what I see when my Scangauge is hooked up to the OBD2 port:
    20210825_163741.jpg

When I unplug the Scangauge, it reads OBD:
    20210825_163926.jpg

But I can't select the transmission temperature gauge:
    20210825_163947.jpg

Could it be they (the shop I had install it today) didn't download the firmware update? Is there such a thing for the Maestro?

    Try this-
Go to the settings menu on your HU and select AV then OEM/Maestro Settings then Maestro Settings then Validate PIDs.
Give it a minute then see if you can add the ATF temp to your gauges page.

I have a keenwood as well and after validating pids the transmission temp will be selectable around 24hrs later. Weird yes, but it shows up eventually.
