I have a 2010 5.7L with the smaller (I think maybe 26G) tank. All of a sudden I have to fill it up very slowly. Basically I can't take the pump nozzle and lock it on, and when I do hold it myself I have to do it slowly.

I read that maybe the evap hose is clogged, but under the truck there are two hoses of the main fill hose. One is the size of a pencil, the other maybe the size of a big marker. Which one is it?

And I really just thought through this, when this happens it almost sounds like a normal fill-up does when the tank is full. Like there is liquid rushing up the fill line.

Any ideas of where to start? Thanks in advance.

Are you getting any check engine light or codes? I had this exact problem on my gen1. Ended up having to replace the evap canister. I tried various ways to "dry" or "clean" the cansiter... No joy. Had to buy new one which immediately resolved the problem.

Sometimes it's the shitty pumps. I get that sometimes on rental cars when traveling to other states. Or perhaps not; just throwing it out there.

Could be. Definitely worth a shot before blowing a hundred or two on a used canister. New is much more.

I would suggest eBay for used if you want to go that route for canister.

I've had these issues as well, at one point for a week straight where I would fill $20 at a time, but just like it arrived it went away...

Thanks for the replies everyone and for all the suggestions, it happened at multiple stations but did seem to be older pumps. So I don't think its the pump but I am driving 4 hours Saturday and will try and find some nice-ish gas stations to see if that makes a difference. And no code at all, no check engine light.

most likely charcoal canister is full. if you had the large tank i would look at the anti roll valve as that is an issue on the 38 gallon tanks, but i have not heard of it being an issue on the 26 gallon tanks. with multiple stations being the issue, i doubt it is the stations pump. i would see if someone has a vacuum pump and can truly diagnose it first as the canister is $400 and up. make sure when you are filling up, you are not topping off. this is one way to fill the canister up quick

This is exactly why you’re not supposed to top off the tank. When the evap canister gets replaced be sure to blow out the evap hoses or you’ll be back to the same problem.

Check/replace the vent hoses before you throw more $$$ at it. Overfilling can cause charcoal to float out thru vent hoses clogging them up as it dissolves somewhat. Checked for cel codes yet? P0446 is common here... https://www.samarins.com/diagnose/p0446.html

I wonder if there is a way to just bypass the canister and have a vent?

Well...Took a 4 hour drive, close to the end the gauge said less than 1/4 tank which in Toyota land meant it probably still had 1/2 tank. Stopped @ a Weigel's and filled up fine. SMH.

Funny how since this thread my truck has done this every fill up. If im over 1/4 tank, pump clicks and clicks. I’m going to unplug the canister to test venting
