Was looking at shipping cost online for shipping my TRD Pro Grill. Majority of them ran anywhere from $25 to $75 on the high end.

Honestly I was prepared to pay right around $60-70. (HOU-->ATL) I had all the correct measurements and weight for the box when I received my quotes.

Went in to drop it off at the local FedEx and boom.. $93 to ship, standard ground.

I still shipped, but I just thought that was insane.

Is there a way to reduce shipping cost? Is UPS or the post office cheaper, maybe?

I don't ever ship anything, but this has me thinking twice about shipping my OEM Mirrors.

Couldn't agree more. Generally I find UPS is a little cheaper than Fed Ex. To ship via USPS the packaging has to be able to withstand a nuclear attack. Heck, I sent a check and it was returned because the check and envelope it was in were severely ripped.

I have never tried it but I have heard that guys ship things on pallets from/to Fastenal stores and it is pretty reasonable. I believe that would be best for bigger things like wheels, tires, etc.

yeah shipping isn't cheap any more for anything.

I shipped mail OEM trail lights to Alma....I'm not saying how much it cost, but I'll say it wasn't cheap. It cost just as much to ship it as it cost for me to send a care package to UAE.....and weighed less!

This great info to have, thanks for sharing! This is the exact reason why I still have a stock chrome grill in my garage. I haven’t listed it for sale because I was afraid the shipping costs wouldn’t make it worth selling. Looks like my hunch was correct ;)

I have a friend that shipped a Tacoma bumper via Greyhound bus. Don't remember what it cost, but it was pretty cheap.

UPS and Fed Ex have multiple charges that come into play. Dimensional Weight as well as actual weight play into charges.

In addition if it is a rural destination or home as opposed to a business there is an up charge that has gone up exponentially over the last 5 years or so. Also fuel charges never came down even though fuel prices did. And finally, if you live in say Florida like I do its much higher to ship because just about everything past Georgia is in the next "Zone" for rates.

I've shipped thousands of packages over the years for company and personal. Economical options are USPS and if its a larger or heavier item than they allow Greyhound would be the next bet. Other than that prepare to take a solid no lube 80 grit sand paper condom ride from the carrier of your choosing.

About a third if going from business to business. They all charge extra for residential.

If you set up a regular account FedEx will give you 10-15% off if , make sure when set up you DO NOT have a pick up location, otherwise they will charge you. Do you know anyone that works for the airlines? if so there is a significant $$$ discount for airline employees

I've shipped a lot and use USPS for smaller items where they don't care about the weight, but UPS for most everything else. I have accounts with USPS, UPS and FEDEX so it's easy to compare. by the way, my grillle came UPS from @Roman at Cool Springs.

Another thing is shipping to a home is more expensive than shipping to a business, I find it cheaper to ship to a local fed ex or ups store cheaper and have the end user pick it up or ship to the business where they work. Just food for thought.

I’m going to do you guys a solid.... check out bikeflights.com

It is setup for shipping bikes but I use them for everything. They ship via FedEx and I’ve not yet found a better (cheaper) way to ship. It is an awesome service.
