Fumoto vs EZ Drain...seeking input

    Some members have the Fumoto and I'm not sure of anybody has the EZ Drain. I wanted to ask all of you before I purchase. Any inputs, reviews both good and bad appreciated. Thanks in advance

    I bought a Fumoto and it is still in the garage. I installed it and was not comfortable with it hanging below the frame. I do easy off-road in CO and was concerned that one rock in the wrong spot on the wrong trail would leave me in the middle of no where. If you have a mall princess then it might not be an issue. I would be willing to sell it.

    I have skids all the way back to the transfer case, so my oil drain is covered. I still won't install a drain valve - I just don't trust them enough. Maybe if they had a redundant backup (like a screw in plug plus the valve). I am not sure why so many use the Fumoto valve. Some say it is to prevent a mess, some say it makes it easier (which I guess it does, but really, how hard is it to put a wrench on the drain plug and turn it)? Also, you can avoid the mess just by using a funnel. You might get some on your hands - but so what?

    I keep going back-and-forth in my mind what it’s going to look like how much it’s going to hang down. That would really suck to knock it off on a simple rock on a trail. I don’t have heavy duty skids yet. When I get it I will mock it up and decide then.

    Not as much as I’d like to but I have taken it down some pretty rocky trails that have tire ruts so it’s got a highpoint in the center of the trail. I’ve touched my skid a few times before I lifted it.

    On my Tacoma the drain was in the center of the pan and even the Fumoto with the nipple did not hang down below the skid plate. On the Tacoma removing the skid plate was not necessary to change the filter but it was to remove the drain plug without getting coated in oil. Fumoto made the job a lot cleaner. Not sure with the oil pan plug position on the Tundra that I will be as inclined to add a Fumoto.

    I put a fumoto on wife’s Camry. She puts about 150 miles a day on it. It’s great. Waiting for next oil change on tundra to put it on.

    Looks like it’s tucked up there pretty good. I almost got the SX series because the nipple is shorter and you can face the valves anyway you would like. Then you just snap in a plastic adapter for the hose. But it looks like it would’ve only saved maybe a quarter inch.

    I had the Fumoto F103N on my gen1 Tundra for 10 years and never had an issue. Loved it. Installed it and never had a leak ever. I just recently put the same one on my 2016 Tundra. The drains are a little slower but you can drain with a hose directly into your waste container. I usually start the drain and do my filter, then clean up the engine bay for a few minutes, and the drain is done. It's a great product.

    The main difference from what I've researched on the two are Fumoto is solid brass with a fiber washer. EZ Drain is nickel plated brass and uses a rubber oring, no gasket. Other than that, they are identical in operation, it's a ball valve.

    I've used Fumotos on four different vehicles. Never had a problem, never a leak. I don't off road, and don't see that it protrudes at all. It's behind, but not below the plate. I like it because with a short section of 3/8" vinyl hose, you can drain directly into any container of any size. If you have empty quart containers, fine. Drain a quart, close the valve, replace container, drain another quart, etc.

    you are not able to get a socket over it because of the ball valve latch/handle. You would have to use a crowsfoot wrench.

    it's pretty damn secure. One spring loaded seal that won't let oil out unless you put the drain fitting over it, and it has another cap with a seal when you're driving. Really low profile as well.

    Doing 12 quarts of really dirty diesel oil and not getting any of it on you is a HUGE bonus.
