Anyone swapped out their fuel tank straps (38 gal) for the OEM off-road version that has the threaded studs?

Need to fit a RCI skid plate so I ordered the new straps and was wondering if anyone has any tips, tricks or good advice on how to do this (or how not to do this). I'm assuming that I can support the tank with a jack and a 2x4 and just replace them one at a time?

    Thanks!

@Pinay did it herself. She has the 26 gallon but I’m sure the same principle applies. Personally I would try to have the tank as empty as possible. It may even be in her build thread.

Yes, as empty as possible...and put in the top of the strap first, hopefully OP has small hands to reach.

Thanks! The straps should be here Wednesday and the tank is around 1/4 right now as I was trying to plan this when it was as empty as possible! My hands aren't too big (mens medium glove size) but I do have a 9 year old that can help out as well :)

Let us know how it goes. I have a victory tank skid, but might switch over to a rci skid in the future.

Wondering this as well. Didn't read enough about the RCI skid when I ordered it and would have preferred a skid that mounted to the frame rather than the tank straps. If @pickeledpigsfeet was closer i'd swap with ya :)

I just got a four wheel camper which puts me close to my max payload. The Victory skid is super beefy and with the extra brackets for the frame mounts I bet it weighs a good 30-50lbs more than the RCI. I would rather use that 30lbs to haul beer. I have no doubt that the Victory skid can handle a whole bunch more abuse, but I will be driving more conservative with a camper in the bed.

I am running RCI motor and trans skids on both my Tundra and FJ. And a RCI fuel tank skid on my FJ and am happy with them. That said I dont have any issues with the Victory skid.

Finally got the chance today to swap the straps. Really straight forward ... I just used the floor jack and a piece of 2x4 to support the tank while I replaced the strap. To remove the strap just loosen or remove the outside bolt then pop the retaining clip that holds the pin on the inside and slide out the pin. I found it easier to attach the pin on the new strap before putting the bolt back in. The skid plate is super simple to install but was a slight challenge since I didn't have a helper and had to do it solo ... it's not that heavy but it's a large chunk of steel. I ended up using the floor jack at about the mid-point to raise it up all at once so I could get the washers and nuts onto the studs. Now I just have to get the transmission skid plate installed and i'm done!
