Fuel / milage

Ok so I did a little searching and did not find an answer I was looking for. I have the 38 gal tank. I just filled up tonite and squeezed in 27.3 gallons. The mileage left on the dash said I had 72 miles till empty. So I would of had about 10 gal left in the tank. I get 15mpg with daily driving to work, store etc. So does that mean I would of had about 150 miles left adding 72 which would total 222 or does the fuel pickup not pick up that residual 10 gal and it just sits there?

 

Some people are not smart and run it past E all the time. Toyota makes it zero out even though you have 3-4 gallons left. I would think you can go 30-50 miles past E, depending on type of driving.
