This morning when i started my truck i heard a beep and seen my guage was reading E. I had half a tank left and went to fill up the truck and its still on E. Does anyone know what i can check first before i take it to the dealership?

Disconnect your battery for 15 minutes and see what happens.

I'm probably wrong but I feel that there's some sort of float inside the tank that determines the amount of gasoline in the tank. If so, I wonder if that's stuck or if there's some other guage or wiring issue.

Yeah maybe a rubber mallet and some knocking around the area the float is.

I would suggest a full tank and a bottle of seafoam. Maybe a couple fill ups can help. Mine jams up at a 1/4 tank, so I play with 3/4s of a tank. If I feel froggy and feel like walking long distances in the middle of the day by force with a Jerry can, I usually go just past that last 1/4. For the record it's just happened like 4-5 times lol.

I second the "check wiring for rodent damage" suggestion. It's unlikely the float is stuck. The wiring comes from the fuel pump ECU that is mounted to the inside of the frame rail above the rear driver's side tire and goes forward to the middle of the tank and hooks a right at the fuel pump basket. You should be able to sneak your cell phone up between the driveshaft and fuel tank for pictures.

Maybe the gas station was ripping you off and no fuel was actually dispensed.

OOOOH SNAPS..... I forgot about this one.... I did see a few vids on people swapping hose nozzles while waiting for victims to park next to them and while you pump the person at the opposite pump is actually fueling up and you get nothing.....

    https://youtube.com/shorts/9aA4yO15w9M?feature=share

I got a credit card cloned like this, There was a guy with a flat tire U-haul truck on the opposite pump and it was red flags for me everywhere and something told me not to use my debit card, so I took the interest penalty, but it was all good, cuz next day I got a notification about an $800 transaction at Lowe's, when I talked to the rep, I told them gas was also probably fraud and got both refunded.... The amount of gas I got, was nowhere near what they were showing, I got like $20, cuz I like Costco better, and they said it was like $120 and I was like nope.

Well it was rodent damage to some wires on top of the fuel tank. Got it fixed and now works again.

Glad you got it figured out! Your thread might just make it easier for the next victim too. Fwiw, I keep pine sol soaked rags and bars of pink Dove soap in various out of the way spots around the engine bay and have screened the HVAC fresh air intake under the wiper cowling. Hope you don't have any more problems!
