I just installed a new Victory 4x4 Blitz bumper a few weeks ago and was running without the front license plate installed up until a few days ago. I really liked the clean look of the bumper and not having the plate, but I didn't want to deal getting pulled over so I finally mounted it this week. Now I'm looking at all the cars in the parking lots and on the road and realizing a lot of cars don't have front license plates - Especially all the Tesla's.

So, has anyone on here gone permanently without the front plate or been pulled over for it? Might be worth the gamble of a fix-it ticket if it's something that CHP no longer or rarely enforces.

Not very happy with the looks of it now:

yes I have gotten a ticket for no front plate. Depends on the officer. But yes they do write tickets.
I am in the same boat with my bumper.

I had my front plate off for a few weeks after replacing my bumper. A friend who is police officer noticed my plate was missing but he did not ticket me. :D

I haven’t had a front license plate on any vehicle since I started driving 12 years ago. Never got a ticket and I’ve lived in ca the entire time. Guess it might depend on city and the local pd as well but I’ve never had an issue

All depends on driver age, type of cars and driving style.
My tundra have front plate cause the dealer already drill holes for it, but all my other cars don’t.

My experience here in SoCal is, tickets for no front plate used to be a big thing because police— more locals than CHP— were supposed to ensure compliance so that red light cameras could sense and photo the reflective plates. But then a few years back those cameras got deactivated, so now I don’t get the sense that it’s much of a concern. It would continue to be a legal reason for a cop to pull you over, but not as likely as it used to be, I think.

At the least it gives them a reason to pull you over. Try a black plate, that might look good

I’ve been pulled over for it numerous times, back when I was young and poor and drove hoopties. I may have gotten a fix-it ticket but can’t recall; got too many in those early years.

I got a fix it ticket for it when I was younger. But I was driving a long travel, wide I beamed Explorer. It screamed pull me over. I had a tube bumper with no place to mount it.

When my dealer prepped my Tundra i had them skip the front plate mounting. Like everyone says, it looks much nicer.

Yes completely agree, I haven't ran a front plate since I got my truck in 2017. But be aware on my last truck I received a no front plate ticket from parking enforcement. They are allowed now to ticket parked cars for no front plate. I found out the hard way and don't street park anymore. I'm sure it's a big source of revenue for LA.

As much as I hate parking in downtown areas with parking enforcement it is sometimes necessary, so I'm leaning towards leaving my ghetto install on for now based on these comments.

Edit - I like the idea of maybe switching to the black plates.

If your state issues 2 license plates they expect you to have both on the vehicle. 1 front and 1 rear. If your state only issues 1 plate then dont worry about it.
Easy PC for a stop missing a front plate when required, just sayin

Yes it's still enforced, how heavily will vary. Take your chances if you want but can't get upset if you get stopped and get a ticket. I stop people for it from time to time during late night hours while looking for DUI drivers but don't write it. I typically only write it if I stop for a moving violation and will give a verbal warning for the mover and write a fix it for the plate. Parking enforcement from counties will definitely get you though.

All good points. I would definitely own my choice, but after hearing everyone's responses I'll be leaving the plate on. Thanks for all the feedback.

In Cali per the vehicle code it’s the law. Chp or small towns would prob stop yah. Every vehicle is suppose to come with them but I have noticed there is no spot for them for the Tesla. But who would ever give a tundra owner a ticket
