What should I use for the front door speakers? It's on a 07 limited with the jbl system. Oem speakers are shot.

Pretty broad question. How much are you looking to spend? Most people go with 6.5" components in all 4 doors. I have the Hertz K170 which are a top seller and great for the price point at $99 a pair. The highs are great but I do feel that I need more from the midrange though so I would like some feedback from others who have installed higher end 6.5" components. The Hertz CK165-L seems like it may be what I am looking for as they have more midbass. Also, I have heard that you can't ever go wrong with Audiofrog so I'll be looking into their offerings as well.

I actually have 6.5 Kenwood 4 of them. Installed them on my 06 just before it got totaled. Took them out and want to use them on my 07. Not interested in the jbl amp and all that. Don't need a lot of bass. Just want to install the 4 speakers in the doors and putting in a newer head unit. What do I need to do that? My 06 was much more simple. The front dash speakers sound fine

I have been partial to Polk Audio Speakers for a long time. I have component 6.5s up front and non component 6.5s in the rear. I am running a Pioneer monoblock amp and a low profile Pioneer subwoofer under the rear drivers side seat.

Do you know anything about your Kenwood 6.5's? I would think you would be happy with those in the doors and they will sound even better running off an aftermarket HU. You probably dont have an amp with that stock system so the current ones are running straight off the crappy HU. You will be surprised at how much louder and probably clearer your door speakers will be once running off a newer HU. I'm not a sound guru but based on what I have read, a lot of stock HU's only provide 10-15 watts to each of the 4 channels and you will get closer to 40-50 per channel off a solid HU like a new model Kenwood or Alpine.

I do have a stock amp. Here's the story I bought the truck used. It cam with a Kenwood touch screen HU but its hard to read at all during the day. I have another double din I'll be installing. I think the person who sold it to me put the stock speakers back in and they pop like crazy. I haven't taken the touchscreen out yet so I don't know yet how or what he wired to it. Doesn't sound like the amp is doing anything. I don't really care if it does. I just want to hook up the 4 6.5's I have (Kenwood KFC 1666s) 2 way speakers plus the 3 dash speakers that I'll leave stock. I've read I have to bypass the amp but I'm not sure how. I just know the basics as far as putting in a radio and changing out speakers.

I gotcha. Well, someone else will have to help you when it comes to the specifics of how to wire everything, as I don’t know anything about it and had JRT/Tech12Volts do my system install.

I'm trying to understand what it is you are trying to accomplish. So, let me see if I understand you: You want to run a "Kenwood H/U" with Kenwood 6.5 components in all 4 doors as well as the three OEM dash speakers and push all of these speakers with no amp; only H/U power. Is that correct? If so, I need more info in order to help you. What model Kenwood H/U is it that you want to push all of these speakers? How many channels does it offer? How many watts per channel? What model are the Kenwood 6.5 components and how many watts and at what ohms are they capable of? Once these questions are answered, it will be easier to advise.

OK, so, presumably, you are going to run the 4 door component sets off the 4 channels on the H/U. What are you going to power the dash speakers with? You see, if you do not "under-power" the dash speakers, compared to the four doors, the dash speakers will sound waaaayyy too "bright". Toyota saw this too, and decided to run the dash speakers off the OEM H/U power only, and utilized an amp for the four doors in order to "balance" it all out. When I gutted my entire OEM system, I installed a 4chan amp to power the doors and a mono chan amp for the subs. I did NOT want to have to run my dash speakers directly off my H/U. So I ditched the dash speakers outright as my new Kenwood Excelon 7" components more than made up for the lack of the dash speaker sound. I'm simply saying that for better audio, I would reserve all of the H/U power for the door components alone, since you are opting to not go with an amplifier. Oh, and one more thing. Since you are relying solely on H/U power for the door speakers, I would DEFINITELY want to install sound-matting in the doors as it will help project better lows (aside from the main benefit of preventing rattle).

I just bought the truck but knew nothing about the jbl set up. At first I wasn't sure if the amp was working but since you say it powers the doors and I'm getting sound from them then it must be working right? The problem I guess is that the speakers in the doors are shot, the paper detached from the rest of the speaker. I have those 4 Kenwoods that are basically new but there 2 way. Can I use the amp and just replace the 4 blown door speakers? Will it sound decent ? And what kind of harness do I need to put the Kenwood HU in? ...Phew! Lol

thats an aftermarket HU the black mounts and the PAC interface gives it away... it looks like the harness has already been spliced into. you would have to see if they wired into the factory jbl amp or bypassed it. the PAC is probably for your steering wheel controls. you will need adapters to fit the 6.5 components in the front cause factory are 6x9... do you have tweeters in the sails?

Yeah the HU that I'm replacing is a Kenwood touchscreen I just don't like it. There are tweeters in the sails. The adapter plates are on the way but will 2 way speakers sound right with the jbl amp. I'm waiting till the adapters get here to put in all 4 door speakers then I'll do the HU

My plan was to get the 4 speakers and then bring it some place to have them install the HU. Normally I can do it but this one is confusing.

you can run two way through the amp but will need a high pass or just cut the wire to the highs and let the tweeter do the job. are you just looking for a quick cheep way to get speakers in? what model of kenwood speakers? i have used Meastro rs for my steering retention and toy1 harness. but i also re wired and bypassed the factory amp also...

    They are Kenwood KFC 1666s.
    • Peak input power: 300W
    • Rated input power: 30W impedance 4 ohms
    • Woofer Features: 6-1/2inch PP cone
    • Tweeter Features: 1inch balanced dome tweeter
    • Sensitivity: 92 dB/ w/ M

I'm fine with just running the doors off the HU and not even having the dash speakers. HU is 50 watts at 4 channels. I just didn't want to run any wires if I could avoid it.

I ve read several threads concerning reconfiguring the jbl system. I don t have it myself, but it seems to me that if I did, and I wanted to change up the audio, I wouldn t want to be limited by the stock wiring, the amp, and have to do all the adapting. I would just wire up a whole new system, install a new amp, or two. You could even throw in a dsp for good measure. Then you re sure to know it s all right, and how you want it.
