I’m at a point where I’m starting to reinstall steering hoses, so I decided to pull the air cleaner to give myself a little extra room.

had to take a few “second looks” to make sure I was really seeing what I was seeing...

It's filthy. And it looks like it was a 'made to fit' install of garbage.

I'm actually surprised it was never shown in any of the Fast and Furious movies.

The device reminds me of one of the devices sold back in the 70's during the gas shortage. It was basically a screen that went between the carb and the manifold. It was supposed to vaporize the gas and give you more horsepower and better mileage. My Dad was a machinist and welder, and decided to make his own. He cut a piece of steel the shape of the gasket and drilled out holes until it was basically a screen. He said it made no difference in horsepower or mileage, but it made cold starts easier and cold idle was a lot smoother.

    I know absolutely nothing :lalala:

But there is a science behind the thinking of both products. Unfortunately, the tornado thingy in actual practice did nothing but make noise. A heavy gauge ground kit properly installed will not add power but can prolong the life of many electronics.

Grounding is a huge factor on any older vehicle, especially some of these salty/rusted up ones. Make sure you scuff and sand any contacts while you are working near any grounds while you are there. At the least, tighten them. Bonus given for putting some electric grease on the contact.

Funny thing is I have been shopping for some 2 and 8 gauge cables to reinforce the flow of power. I understand that the ground cable does not need to be of exact gauge as power but I also understand that electronics can and will work under less than ideal conditions but either low or high voltage/amperage creates heat. heat kills electronics slowly. 2 gauge engine to chassis and from same spot 2 gauge to battery and another tail to the body from battery. That stabilizes the flow of electricity

Check to see if you have another one in the exhaust pipe.

That thing won't work without some real spark plugs and piston return springs.
