"The automaker will instead ship the semiconductors to dealers within one year, which they will then install in customers’ vehicles after purchase."

"Other automakers have also had to make sacrifices due to the chip shortage, with GM dropping wireless charging, HD radios, and a fuel management module that made some pickup trucks operate more efficiently. Meanwhile, Tesla sold some cars without USB ports and made them installable at a later date. Luxury cars haven’t been exempt from the shortage either, as Cadillac nixed its hands-free driving feature in its 2022 Escalade, while BMW began shipping some cars without touchscreens."

    It is a Storage solution.

At least they have the capacity and money to build them nearly complete. They should have reconsidered recoding their software the way Tesla did to make do with what you can find And not miss a beat.

Unfortunately their success is now a thorn in my side, since I live in Austin - we're basically slowly trading places with SF.

Stories I've seen say 1,500 to 2,000 chips in an EV. I will be the first to admit that I don't know if there's more than one way to count "a chip."

I know at least one person who got one of those. In fact, I know a number of guys who traded in their vehicles like a year ago specifically *BECAUSE* they are Chevy/GMC fans, and their new trucks 'wouldn't have that AFM crap' as they put it.

And yet I get crap for buying a 'foreign truck'....that's essentially already set up in several ways like they want their trucks to be set up. (No AFM; simple interior; 4.30 gears; etc.)

This sounds like a family day of fun filled activities. I hear the "build your own Ford" workshop will be a hit.

Ha! I'm one of those GM guys who bought the Tundra because I loved that it didn't have AFM, had a simple interior, 4:30 rear, etc :D

We’ve had a shortage of truck drivers for a long while now. The major rail companies decided to help, by training some of their excess engineers to drive 18 wheelers.

But that just lead to a shortage of semi-conductors.

Oh yeah; every good ol' boy and 'in the know' person I know who's bought a GM/Chevy truck in the last 4 years or so has had the dealership disable the AFM even before leaving the dealership. :)
