Why not get the 2018 OEM LED fog lights? To me they look to have the same color or brightness as the LED head lights. Just don't expect to much, although they are bright, they have a wide pattern but only reach out maybe 6'-8'.

Basically cuz they’re like over $130 per side. If you can just replace the bulb with an LED that’s color temp matched you can find them as low as $50 a pair. And there’s nothing special about the oems other than the color matching. Just my opinion.

I guess it would be OK to put LED bulbs in there since they only fog lights and are really low. I am usually not a fan of putting HID or LED bulbs in halogen reflectors, not only are they missing the cut off but they also scatter light all over the place and blind oncoming drivers. I have been on the receiving end of those cheap and illegal conversion to many times.

glare from installing a bulb that was not meant to be in the particular reflective lens. just the same as installing HID in a reflector housing that was not meant to be. you've seen those guys...they are well documented through the years!!

I’ll agree with that but only for headlights. The fog lights are low power, supplementary lights that shoot down in the foreground. Plus most modern automotive led replacement bulbs are made with chip arrays that cast light like a bulb. You can even buy some with a diffuser that makes it More like that. They haven’t always been like that. And when you’re talkin $40 a pair for a color match, vs $360 a pair for the factory ones, the argument for the factory ones isn’t strong enough for a light that’s not a primary drive light.

Fogs are reflectors just the same as a headlight bulbs, no? Optics is optics.

I've seen glare from LED fogs, which is why I said, don't be that guy!

    127.45*2= $255

Hahaha, automotive light housings are most certainly not optics, but I smell what you’re steppin in. And my bad, last price I saw was $190 each. I stand corrected. But $255-$40=1 hood bulge plus shipping. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Because it’s retroreflectivity and refraction, not optics, it’s a different concept. You perceive that glare with your eye, which is optics. I don’t wanna get in a forum debate. I get what you’re saying. The reflector housings manufactured for an led light source are more suited to its light casting characteristics, than one that was not. I just don’t think it’s worth the money.

Welp, even tho there is opposition to keeping the old fog housings and just matching the color of the OEM 2018 LED headlights, I found these LED bulbs and just had to try them... here's the deal:

You turn them on, they are 6000K, you turn them off and back on quick... they're 3000K! So this can be done whenever, whilst driving. Pretty cool idea. Again as far as glare in the OEM housing, I'm not one of the believers since fog lights are not a primary driving light and they are very low on the truck and only shoot out like 4'-5' directly in front of the truck on the road. They're also not nearly as bright as the headlights and I don't have that "anytime fog lights" mod done so they'll never be on w/o the headlights... So there's that. They don't match the white color as perfectly as I had hoped, but they're actually pretty close, and I'm happy with them.

Note: They always start up on White. You have to flick them off/on to change to yellow. So if they are turned off longer than like 4 seconds, they would just come back on white gain. see pics.

Lessons learned: (And this is for anyone changing anything about the fog lights whether its the housing or just a bulb swap) TAKE THE WHOLE HOUSING OUT FROM THE FRONT OF THE BUMPER. It is SOOOOO much faster/easier than trying to F with that stupid plastic shroud in the wheel well. there's a clip on the top, and on the bottom, just use a non-metallic pry tool and it pops right out and you can get to the harness, the housing, the mounting screw, and the aiming knob.

I don't know if mines different because it's a Platinum or because it's a 17, but that method didn't work for me, my truck had a little blue locking tab that would prevent you from popping it out like that.

I also noticed that the fog lights don't come on when the lights are set to automatic. I'll try flashing the brights this evening and see if they change color. Thanks for the heads up
