I grew up fishing in PA (crappies, trout, bass, perch) on a spin reel and it has been many years since I really have fished. I have been backpacking a lot now and looking to be a bit more self sufficient when out for many days at a time. I am looking to get a fold up rod and small case for flies and tools. Ideally it will be lightweight, meant for river fishing like the Gila or Escalante etc. I would like to carry it in a tube of sorts. Any all in one kits out there?

    Thanks for any advice.

Lots of fly rods are 4 piece and come in a tube. They run the price range from $100 to well over $500. What weight rod do you think you need?

Is tenkara style really limiting for small river/mountain lake fishing like I am planning?

Older thread so I may be too late but I use a Redington classic 6 piece 3 wt for my backpacking although my friend has the cabelas 6 pc 3wt and it is a better casting rod in my opinion. I do like the redington but it’s very soft and floppy- good for dry fly soft presentation but the cabelas is better overall rod. Probably other brands that make a nice 6 pc as well.
