Trying to get rid of the chrome up front, I finally decided on a TRD grille. I thought what I was ordering was just the insert - the part of the grille outlined in Red in the pic below.

I don't know why I thought that. Other possibilities I was looking at were just the insert I guess I assumed this one was. But turns out it wasn't. I had planned to have black surrounded by chrome.

But now I've got this - so I need to make a decision - either find a different black insert and re-sell this one, or make everything else black up front.

Supposin' I make everything else black up front my plan is to plasti-dip the chrome bumper ends rather than deal with that headache of replacing. Could paint them as well.

But the part that is attached to the hood - the hood scoop - that would need to be replaced. So before I make another boneheaded decision.... here is my dilemma. I believe what I need is this part: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Tundra...ack+hood+scoop&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0

The seller I bought the TRD from does not have the hood scoops. So I run the risk of the gloss black no matching the gloss black on the TRD...

What do folks think? 1) Is that the right part for a 16 Crewmax LTD, and 2) odds of the black matching?

I suspect these are all made in the same place, so I'm guessing I'll get lucky?

They all come like that. It's called the insert and surround. The other part you have a link to is called the hood bulge.
I think it would look best if you got the. Jack good bulge too and then painted or wrapped your chrome bumper end caps.
But if what you want is the trd pro grill inside your chrome surround and bulge. There is a solution. You CAN remove the surround from your old grill as well as the one you bought. Then place the insert into your chrome surround. It's a little tedious but it can be done. You're bound to break a few tabs but it's no big deal.

Plastidip bumper ends? That will work too but it wont be gloss and you'll need to touch it up now and then. No big deal. The plastidip does very closely match the center bumper texture and color.
I just got and used some rustoleum peel coat I'm gloss black to do a few things. Its not super glossy but much shinier than plastidip just as an fyi

Thanks - super helpful! I've thought about the Rust Oleum - was going to try the gloss plasti coat but maybe I'll go that route.

Thanks for the link on defining the parts - super helpful! Ok - am likely to go with the 202 black hood bulge - going to take a look at it all tonight again.

I rocked that look for a couple weeks after the wrong color bulge was initially shipped to me. Already had the black pro grille on before I realized the bulge was MGM!!

I definitely got some weird looks around town, I feel ya!

There’s black 202 and 218, look on your door panel and see which color code is yours. They’re pretty close, more noticeable in sunlight. I don’t believe the TRD grille ever came with a chrome surround, you’d have to frankenstein it together. I’d probably go all black like mine unless you want to be unique.

They don’t come with chrome. But no frankenstein if you swap inserts. Snap right together.

Since I had both grilles sitting around, decided to make a hybrid. The inserts swap in and out as folks have said. Definitely a pucker factor getting them off. The clips are not all that sturdy and they were definitely not designed to be easily interchangeable. Always drives me nuts to see this - the grille could have been designed with a much better clipping mechanism that was easier to use with a lower risk of destroying it during dis-assembly. Either way - I got them taken apart and put back together and I actually like the look of the chrome/black.

I think all black might be my preference, but with the other chrome accents on the car I think I'll stick with it and save the $$ from buying the black hood bulge.

I think it looks good as well! Even though I freaking hate chrome on vehicles, it doesn't bother me as much on black ones.

Thanks guys - definitely breaks it up a bit. The all chrome/silver up front was just too much. If the running boards, handles, mirrors, logos, bumper ends weren't all chrome... but man to get this thing to all black is definitely a slippery slope without just going the rattle can route!

take it to the wrap shop[ and have them wrap all the chrome (bulge, bumper, etc) in black and be done with it, shouldn't cost more than $200

It looks great! Im doing the same thing to my my silversky tundra sr5. I swapted the sr5 to the limited grille insert andit looks good. However i just bought the trdpro insert from ebay for135. I like the vintage look. My buddy has a land cruiser and the front is very similar to the trd pro. I like the way the grille looks with the chrome too. This is someone elses Tundra. Looks great!76E321D7-F29A-4D08-B639-0338A6F91768.jpg

I agree - now that I've had it on for a while I'm going to stick with it and leave the mix of black and chrome!
