    I receintly bought a fire extinguisher to have in my Tundra. I m curious how many have one, and where they mounted it. I m also thinking I need a better mount. The one it came with doesn t look like it would handle off roading very well. The tank is 4 1/2" in diameter. I think it s called a 5lb tank. I think it a little larger than most vehicle extinguishers...

    I have a single cab second gen, so mine is inside the cab where the jack used to be (got a bigger jack so it stays in my toolbox), a lot of jeep guys put them below the seat near your feet. I guess it really depends on how your interior is set up (ie, molle panels everywhere or a very stock interior etc)

    I bought a marine grade mount for a 10 pound unit that I have yet to mount inside the bed. That is the plan anyway.

    Rather than a big bulky tank, I switched to an Element fire extinguisher. From what I read, traditional fire extinguisher contents are so toxic that even if you put out the fire, you'll likely ruin all your electronics in that area.

    The element unit I have hardly takes up any space.

    Make your own for $10 and have leftover stock for other mounts.

    Not sure if this would work on a 2nd or 3rd gen, but I put my on the side of my backseat.

    I remember the olden days when the Ricky Racer guys would mount a fire extinguisher on the passenger's side ~ A Pillar.
    Really cheap advertising ~ "Hey, look at me, I'm Chingon !"
    Handy in putting out a fire ~ not so much if you're involved in an accident.

    My compadre saw a vehicle with an engine fire on the street ~ he stopped and put it out with his fire extinguisher.
    The owner of the car said something like;

    "Look at the mess you made with that foam all over the top of my engine!"

    Ha, go figure . . .

    I m intrigued by the Element though it would be nice to see it in action. The few videos I ve seen were little piddly fires that would burn out on there own if not addressed.

    I'd been carrying my extinguisher in my swingcase, then today it clicked that I could mount it to the case. It was really easy, since the holes in the mounting bracket line up perfectly with two holes on the swing case. Even better, the inside of the swing case is metal plate, so you can torque the crap out of the bolts and never worry about the case plastic fatiguing. Note: you have to drill out the plastic, but no drilling through metal is needed.

    The finished product is below. You can see there is plenty of clearance on all sides.

    That doesn't interfere with swinging the case out?

    It does limit how far it can swing. No issue for me, but I could see how it could be for others.

    Nice. Depending on how much swing you need, this is certainly a viable solution. Great job!
