After getting an insurance check for my hail damage Iv decided to just replace the hood with fiberglass. So I need some help.

Please post your after market hoods!

Also what should I expect for fitment, painting and durability? Some makers say to only use hood pins and no struts. Any feedback is welcomed.

Fiberglass is shit. The aftermarket stuff is generally poorly made and takes a lot of prep to paint. Also, generally, you get a poor fit and it compromises the safety rating of the truck. Steel and aluminum hoods have crumple zones in them that cause them to tent and protect the passengers by folding up in front of the windshield.

3 year old truck, why not just install the proper hood? crazy to ruin your car esp given you have been paid out by insurance co.

Carbon is typically a fiberglass core wrapped with carbon. Carbon Creations also has some Tundra hoods.

Yes, I've crashed a car with a carbon VIS hood. The latch bar separated from the hood and the hinge bolts pulled out of the hood. The hood went into the windshield, cowl edge first. Windshield kept it out of the cabin though.

I would still do it because it looks badass. If you want to get one, get a good one. They can indeed be a pain in the ass for paint prep. OR use a carbon hood. I was going to suggest a one-piece, but there are none and that would take a lot of fab.

What did it cost to have this painted? And is the black on it custom?

While there are some crazy designs out there for the Tundra, I would steer away from fiberglass. The aftermarket industry doesn't always make the molds or parts that will fit properly you will always need to make modification in order to fit your truck properly. To top it all off being the hood, it is a part that will have use often (open and close), at least every oil change. This will cause tension on the whole part and cracks will start to appear and paint will start flaking off.

    Stick to a metal hood.

This should be common knowledge to anyone looking at anything fiberglass. I'm going to glass fenders anyways so I'm not going to let the negative comments about them on this one thread hinder me. Plenty of guys on this forum run fiberglass hard off roading. The only thing that I'll agree with on here is that it's not 100% buy and bolt on without any work but once again, this is common knowledge for anyone that's seriously considering this route.

That is a lot of vents. Must be extra “fast” and “sound cool”

Ha! True, but honestly most people on here seem to be interested in changing their trucks from factory, one way or another. Tires, wheels, shocks, bumpers, full on builds. I'm not gonna bash one guy's opinion, like the OP here just because I want to keep my truck plain, (and no, I don't want a plain truck). @Stevenmartinez83 if you want to start that one with no hood then I'll follow your build...er....de-build then:)

You’ve stated your opinion on them and it’s clear you don’t like them. Maybe you can just move on without being abrasive?
