I'm looking at the Vated 3" adjustable coilovers from Fat Bob's Garage. I see they offer the setup with the Bilstein and another without. I know that just about everywhere you look people are running the Bilstein shocks. I do just about all miles on the highway, about 90 a day, no off-roading.
I'm on a budget and looking to save so is there any issues going with the set that doesn't have the Bilstein since it's $100 less.

Is anyone running this and if so how do you like?

TIA. Oh, is there a discount code for the forum as well?

I am running these. I say for the price they are a great way to go with little off roading. Makes even more sense if you are going to pay someone to put your coils on the 5100's.
No issues and ride is nice and easy adjustment. I went the Bilstein 5100 version. I would call them and discuss the version with their shock, never looked into that one. I also believe they have a 7% discount on their website.

Set at 2.5" front. 1.5" shackle rear.

Yea I shot them an email asking for specific differences. In an earlier email they said pretty much the same, just different brand. So if only paying for the name and with little to no off-roading, kinda leaning towards their shock.

Good to know about the discount! Thanks.

Yours looks level and you went 2.5 and 1.5, I would have though you would have had more rake.

I think its just the camera angle. Looks different at times. First pic looks level, second pic you can see the rake. I'm about 3/4-7/8" of rake as my shackles actually gave me 1-3/8" of lift.

Okay, I can see in the 2nd pic a lil bit of rake. That's another reason I'm leaning towards the Fat Bob's setup. Was going with the Eibach set at 3" but like the fact that I can adjust these and hopefully get it just right. Cause, with yours the 2.5" gave much more lift on the front than I would have imagined. So that will give me options.

Have had them on 2 sets of Tundras with no issue.. I would not hesitate to get the lower priced one. I run about 30-35K miles a year on interstate and never had any issues... even ran fire trails and steep towing on hills.. no issues

Great. Helps a lot when you get personal advice. I think i am going with the lower priced. Sales is telling me I'd be hard pressed to tell a differnece in the ride. But id you run that many miles and some off-road then thats great. What setting you using? Easy to adjust? Thanks again!

Mine were set at 3" of lift...if u like lil softer ride go with 2.75 or 2.5...ask them to set it for that. Then once you get them measure to insure hight is the same

I went with the Bilsteins mainly because my truck came with them from the factory, nice to stay somewhat factory. Fat Bob's shocks are probably similar to the 5100's. Personality I don't think you can go wrong with 5100's. I built a '67 International Scout 800 and in the Scout community 5100's are used on some serious off roaders without issue. I know there are better shocks out there but for the money you get a good product.

I know some have had good luck with FBG but I’m not a fan. There adjustable Coilover parts are a direct copy of Toytec. They used to buy these from Toytec as a dealer and decided they could just get them fabricated cheaper.

Make sure your spring rate is correct I’d go 700lb spring for these trucks

They are 700 LB springs, don't think they offer anything else for the Tundra.

I've only heard positives. I just like the fact they are adjustable once installed. I was going with the Eibach ones from Toytec, but they are not adjustable and been reading some bad reviews as of late, especially with the springs.

I've had mine for about 4 years now. No problems. They are a little stiff, but the ride is still decent.

I can't comment on FBG shocks as I didn't use them, however their Bilstein coilover kit was great. Delivered to me 3 days after I ordered. Answered all my questions and didn't try to oversell me. I will be a repeat customer.

Two bankruptcies, stealing designs and going China to make cheaper is enough to keep me away.

Good price on the shackles. Look heavy duty as well. I know that coachbuilders are but if trying to stay in budget it's blown with them. And since I don't off-road, no need for them.

Let me ask you this, how easy are they to adjust once installed. I was told, I'd need to jack up the truck just to get the weight off the tires and I could easily adjust. Also, was told there aren't any set increments, so you can adjust anywhere between 3" and stock.

Have you ever adjusted the height after installation? If so, how easy is it?

I wonder if I go with them set at say 2.5 and then use a shim to get the full 3" if that would make the rider softer than just setting them at 3"?

Yes, jack up truck, remove wheel so you have room, spray a little lubricant on the threads to make them turn easier and adjust. Drive around the block and check height, really easy. There are no set increments, adjust to any height up to 3", this also makes it nice to get rid of the Tundra driver's side lean. You might have to do it a couple times to get it dialed in.

Edit, use jack stands for safety. I'm sure you already knew that

The whole reason I went with these was for ease of adjustment and no need for shims. I am at 2.5" and the ride is great, better than my TRD shocks. I would have no issue going the full 3" as your only looking at about another 1/4" compression on the springs to get there from 2.5". My opinion is set them to 3" if you want and don't mess with shims, I think you will be happy.

You just sold me on the setup and height. I've only heard good feedback about FatBobs and really like the ability to adjust versus ordering a setup set at 3" and that's it. Which I was on the verge of doing. But after coming across these I like that option, and getting rid of the lean was another thing these accomplish!

    Thanks man.
