So I took truck to dealer for an oil change, and asked them to disable the fake v8 sound that's played via the truck speakers, as well as change the turn signal tap from 3 to 5 blinks. They took care of both at no charge.

    WHAT A RELIEF!

The engine now sounds more natural. I don't care that it sounds like a Camry, it's quiet now! It's now about 40% quieter that the stupid v8 fake growl sound which is finally gone.

I like hearing the natural engine sound so I can better feel it, see how loaded it sounds and connect with it while driving the truck.

I really hated the fake engine sound! For example, I would drive slowly at about 5-10mph but fake engine growl sound would be like I'm getting on a freeway!

It's like dude... I'm not in high school anymore, and don't need to have a super loud exhaust to call attention to my car sound when I'm driving...

They should have included an easy toggle button to disable this! Really made me suffer the past couple of months I had the truck!!

I can enjoy quiet ride now.

Yes I know I could have disabled the fake sound with Carista, but didn't feel like wasting time figuring it out, and asked dealer instead

Now just need to figure out how to fix whistling noise coming from the driver side mirror above 50mph

Glad you got that fake V8 sound turned off. I would not like it. My 22 Frontier has a V6. Powerful, but quiet. I'm going to leave it as is. IMHO, no V6 sounds great with aftermarket exhaust unless you want to sound like a cheesy rice rocket.

Keep in mind.....I don't have twin turbos like the new gen Tundra. Might sound good with an aftermarket setup. Not sure if a member has posted a decent sound clip yet with aftermarket on a 22 tunny.

    I test drove a 23, sort of liked the v8 sound ... so bought a 21 with v8.

Nah, I'm kidding, you were right to disable the silly sound.

I plan on doing this during my first oil change. I too rely on engine sound feedback while driving. And honestly I look forward to hearing more turbo noise.

    LoL

Funny thing is that my first visit to the dealer, because of the short trims and mirror whistle noise... The service advisor said they can't disable the fake v8 sound.

My second visit, I told him that he indeed easily can disable it. He said OK, and after typing for a minute, he asks me "so what's wrong with engine? Is it making noise? :facepalm:so I had to educate him about the fake v8 sound that the new Tundra has...

I don’t think mine has this simulated engine noise, at least it doesn’t sound like a V8 to me and nothing has been modified or reconfigured, is it possible that mine didn’t come with this configured?

what do you mean by short trims?

pretty much any exhaust noise you hear in the cab is simulated.

If you have the upgraded sound system option then you will have this fake v8 engine sound.

No upgraded sound system option - no fake v8 sound

We picked ours up Saturday. Long drive so we spent the night and drove home next morning. It was raining on the interstate and we kept hearing this noise. Sounded like a motorcycle. Realized it was fake engine noise. Whipped out Carista when I got home and made it go away. What a silly sound. Also changed blinker flash from 3 to 5. Set up all windows down with key fob

when I tested the platinum model I thought the fake sound was really out of place.

when I get mine that needs to be turned off ASAP, its lame. I'll enjoy the quiet this time around.

it seemed off on how hard the truck was working to me, like a video game fake noise or soemthing, lol.

That said, I always liked real V8 rumble. The best sounding truck I ever had I think was my ram with 350 hemi with a borla XS on it, phuck that thing had a deep rumble

The fact that Toyota will tell the buyer that the hillbilly carnival on the corner of Main & Sheepkiss lane is just as good as Disneyland but literally add a fake V8 sound to the truck screams so much.

Question for those that have had it disabled. I don’t love the fake sound either and I have a service appointment coming up that I was going to ask them to turn it off. My question/concern is, I haven’t noticed any major wind noise so far, if I get the fake sound turned off, will wind noise be more obvious?

LOL don't worry. Engine sound has nothing to do with the whistling or wind noise. You either have wind noise or not....

You have to sign up for the Toyota Quiet Package, for a mere $20 a month they will turn off all whistling and bed knocking noises. For a short time only, an additional $5 can disable the moonroof leak feature!

I hated that fake engine sound too. Easy for the dealer to delete it. Obnoxious feature that insults Tundra owners in my opinion. The dealer can eliminate it with their scan tool through the OBD port. The engine itself makes a nice quiet pleasant sound all on its own. I’d rather hear J.S. Bach or just the sounds of silence in my truck - not that icky artificial growl.

The dealer can deactivate it throught OBD2 Port
Active noise control/Utiliity/Customize/Others/ANC/ESC and then turn it off!

Thanks for the comment on th DC not having fake sound. I’m old but didn’t think I was going deaf. The engine sound I hear is not a V8 and when it is a high rev is still pretty quiet compared the 5.7 at 4000 rpm.

I want to trade my 21 pro for a new pro… one day….maybe. Turning that fake sound off will be the first thing I do! I’d rather be able to listen to music and have a conversation. My 21 pro is so loud especially when I tow.

Thanks for the info, glad it can be turned off. Never really understood the point of the faux v8 sound. If one wants a truck to sound like a v8 than one should go buy something with a v8.

There isn't anything in this truck that may decrease the noise inside of the cabin. The capstone has some sort of additional noise cancelation but nobody is really raving about it, so it's likely negligible or a gimmick...

The only thing I can think of is the ANC may help with microphone performance for the phone calls.

Guess i'm in the minority, I disabled the sound too but after a few weeks it was just too quiet for a truck, so I reenabled it.
I also disabled the fake sound on our 23 sequoia trd pro thinking my wife would hate it, but she made me turn it back on too lol.

Funny, when I had mine turned off I thought the quietness was wonderful. I asked my wife what she thought and got -"I can't tell a difference"...lmao

The V6 TT will do circles around the 5.7 V8... Had them both, I never dreamed it, but it's true.
Also am averaging 18MPG, use ECO mode all the time on highway,

Well get pissed because the Gen3 Tundra isn't the first, nor will it be the last. And it's not artificial or fake, it would be like when you speak then inhale some helium, then speak again. It's Enhanced!
