    Hey guys,

Recently purchased a 2017 Tundra Platinum CM and it appears it is equipped with a OEM remote start. The small dealer I purchased it from did not acknowledge/sell it as installed, so cannot get any support from them. When I follow the button presses on the fob, the parking lights flash, and the accessory lights come on in the dash, but the truck never attempts to crank. After 10 seconds it turns off. That's it.

Any ideas? Is there a second key under the dash somewhere that may be missing? Incorrect fob programming? Help!

What are you doing to try and start it?
Are you lights flashing for 10 seconds and then turn off? I wasn't clear when I read it.
Mine can be finicky at times and doesn't start every time.

    Here is a video: https://player.vimeo.com/video/541695065

Lights flash and beep, ignition turns on but no attempt to start/turn over the engine. Then after about 10 seconds, ignition turns off. No error in the dash.

how many times are you pressing to try and start the truck? For mine (and it is probably aftermarket) takes 3 presses of the lock button within 3 or so seconds to start.

    Yes same. 3 presses.

I notice when I first lock the truck, the red security lock in the dash stays on, but after the attempted remote start, it flashes.

Looks like you are doing it right as the ignition is turning on, just not cranking. Trying sticking your key in the ignition and then trying to start it with the remote start. I know with the after market remote starts you often have to sacrifice a key for it to work.

So, pulled the negative battery cable for 30 minutes. Just put it back and tried the remote start twice: same issue. But then tried starting the truck with the key and it would not start. Just cranked over and over. Had to pull the battery again, and then try to start it with the key first. I'm not sure what is going on.

I was told to hit the lock button twice and then hold it for up to 10 seconds and then it starts. (it does work) However also note that the range of the fob is shorter and it makes little sense because unlike my vette - when you open the door on the Tundra the engine shuts off - completely useless

Yeah the sequence I have down. The truck does everything it is supposed to except actually engage the starter and try and crank. I guess I will have to go to the dealer :(

Just wanted to follow up on this issue and post another video of the issue to see if anyone has any new ideas. Would love to get this working, even if it means taking it in to the dealer.

Not sure on the 17, but for 18 and later, remote start unfortunately gets disabled if you don't subscribe to Toyota Connected Services. This includes the fob, not just the app remote start.

I am having a hard time finding which models require Toyota Connected Services and which dont. Any idea?
Also, I tried registering the truck in The TCS app, but it seems you can only sign up if you purchased your car from the Toyota Dealer new....

I'm not certain on whether the fob requires connected services on a 17. The part linked below doesn't mention it (but it might not anyway).

If it does require the subscription; if you want the services for more than remote start, I'm sure a dealer could hook you up. If fob-activated remote start is all you're looking for, and if yours is simply broken; it might do to ping @memario1214 to see if there's a good aftermarket choice available.

@cdavi060 I have something "check". First off is going to be your hood latch/sensor. I'm assuming your '17 has this sensor. Try opening your hood and fiddling with the plug right by the hood latch. You normally should get a warning, but I don't know how detailed Toyota was then.

Can’t seem to find a good switch.
Also don’t see any signs of wiring messed with or an aftermarket module under the dash.

there are two stickers under the hood, which I find weird. Orange seems to be factory, the other seems to be aftermarket.

I don’t think this is true. I believe they went against that and are still allowing the fob to be used after initial negative blowback. I don’t pay for the Connected Services and my 1 year free was up months ago. Fob still works.

The 2017 was pre all the connected services and TSS stuff, yes? So I dont think that is a factor. I have a 2016 and have none of that stuff. 2017 is same, changes came in 2018.

hmmmmmmm I retired from working on cars and did so with Lexus & Toyota dealerships only for 10 years. Never once came across a remote start issue like this. Don't hate me but take it to the dealership or a Toyota specialty shop that can run a health check for DTC's. Most likely a malfunction somewhere.

This is where I am at this point. I’m going to try the programming sequence from the install PDF instructions, and after that I’m lost.

Are you sure it actually has a remote start still connected? Have you tried to locate it? My 2019 I installed an aftermarket remote start, it plugs in under the dash.

^that has merit. If the holes where those stickers are ever had the hood switch, it's gone now.

On the connected services item - as frichco228 confirmed, yours won't be impacted. sorry for the diversion.

So, at the one year mark, the remote start on my '20 became unreliable. Sometimes it would, sometimes it would not. I started to self-diagnose - pulling the negative battery cable for a hard reset, updating the HU, and poring through Tundras.com for any answers. I called my Toyota dealer, but they gave me the connected services answer. As this past winter set in, it stopped working altogether. I had given up, and hadn't tried to use the remote start since probably late November. Just went outside and tried it. Fired right up.

I've updated my HU in the past couple of months, so maybe that helped. Whatever it is, I'm pretty happy about it now. Thanks, folks.

!!UPDATE FOR ANYONE TO RUNS ACROSS THIS THREAD WITH THE SAME ISSUE!!

It would appear that the factory RES unit had lost registration/programming. I ran through the steps for registering a new unit when installing (starts on page 27) and it now works!! Woo! :bananadance:

I am having issue with re-registration. Page 27 asks to disconnect the V4 harnesses 1P RES diagnostic connector. I can not find it. Any help on this? I have the passengers cowel removed and I think the V4 Harness is bolted to the side of the glove box area. Bots facing the door?? I have a 2019 Platinum Sequoia. Any help appriciated.
