    Can we discuss Extended Warrantees?

If you purchased your Tundra new, did you get the extended warrantee? If I may ask, what did you pay for an Extended Warrantee?

Two years ago, my wife needed a new car and we got her a Civic. I don't remember the exact cost but the dealer offered me the warrantee at an outrageous amount. I declined it. As I was walking out they came back with a much more reasonable amount.

I used to have a friend who worked for Toyota. I had purchased a used 2006 Corolla XRS from Fla and had it shipped to Riverhead, NY. He got me what I thought was a good price in the extended warrantee. Just under $1000 (do not remember the exact amount).

It will give me an idea what to expect.

Also, am I correct, an extended warrantee can be purchased later??

Cost of extended warranty varies vehicle to vehicle and they also varies what they cover and for how long.

With my experience, I did a100k bumper to bumper that I did not need in a '05 Tundra. Bought it with my wife's Honda Odyssey did not use it. Bought it for my wife's GL bluetec still have not used it. Both 3rd gens too. It'd like insurance, it's there when you need it.

You can get one still when you are in the 3 year 36K. I have had one before, but I don't have one on this truck. The dealer you buy from will probably try to make some more money off of you with the warranty. If you do a search on here there are a couple of places that do the warranty for 25ish bucks over cost.

That makes sense that it would vary. The specific truck I have in mind is an Tundra SR5. I was looking for a dollar amount for an equivalent vehicle. But, to your point, a Platinum warrantee may cost more than a base SR5. But having a ballpark would $ help.

I paid $1600 for my SR5. But that's 150000 miles 6yrs with maintenance. I drive 25k a year, oil change alone pays for it.

When i got my Tacoma, it was certified pre owned so it was covered under that warranty. Traded it in with 94k miles to get my tundra and the only time i needed the warranty was to have the entune radio replaced because it froze up on me on cold mornings. Other than that, it was pretty much just a piece of mind.
Personally, I think these vehicles are too reliable to spend money on a warranty.

My Tundra marks the 7th new-from-the-dealer Toyota that I have had. My first one was in 1985. I have never purchased an extended warranty and have never needed/wished I had.

I drove my truck off the lot new, and it's never been back. I purchased 6 year coverage, and it was a total waste of money.

One of the reasons I buy Toyota is the consistent reliability. The low likelihood of a defect or failure makes the warranty unnecessary, especially given that this truck is largely unchanged for YEARS.

On this subject, anyone can do research to assess the likely/statistical reliability of a particular model based on real world evidence and testing. This examination of actual data is a great replacement for a gut-instinct purchase of an unnecessary warranty.

I bought one for my 2005 and never used it, although the air pump went out at 90K miles.
I bought one for my 2014 and have yet to use it.
    It's a 7 year 75K mile warranty and I'm at 5 years and 60K.

Don't recall what I paid for either one.
They were discounted because I do remember telling them I didn't want it, until they made it very affordable.

Due to whatever (financial) reasons I've bought extended warranties because I really didn't have the money to get them fixed without using credit.
But now finally after paying off debt and being able to save money, I doubt I'll buy one on my next Tundra in 5 or 6 years.

I like extended warranties [I went 3rd party, however]: it was like NOTHING a month. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

There's so much electronics in these vehicles nowadays.

    P.S. If I don't ever need it, no biggie; if I do, I look like a GENIUS.:D

The longest extended warranty I was offered on my last vehicle was 7 years. Based on my understanding of the bathtub curve of failure, that would be a waste of money. Any infant mortality issues will be covered by the 36 month bumper to bumper warranty. Anything else is going to last until after your extended warranty expires so why give the dealership any more of your hard earned money than you have to?

Same reason I pay for insurance.
2000 for 7 years of insurance is worth it to me.

Here is what you should pay.... Obviously the 4wd Tundra would be a bit more....

We all did by Toyota's for the reliability but things can happen, even to the best built vehicles. (Cam tower leak anyone?) And at the prices dealers want to charge would make anyone think twice but at the REAL rate it makes more sense. EW aren't for everyone but for piece of mind it is good for some.

I got a lifetime warranty on mine from the dealership for free only catch is when all required maintenance is done I have to enter it into a the computer through the dealership or if it is done by Toyota I’m good the other catch was it is for the original owner only it’s (non transferable) which was ok with me my last truck I kept 15 years.

Hello Miller, You might want to consider removing the contact information. This is how the last guy was shut down is the contact name / info was listed in a forum and not just passed on via private message...

I was one of the early members to use Jennifer. I always shared her info via PM. I agree with the above poster that the courteous thing to do is share privately. I’d hate to see the kind of deal go away.
