I was reading someone's post , can't remember. They said installed dual exhaust but went back to single for some reason. I would like to know why if anyone has done this, got to have something to do with performance.

    Thanks

Because duals kill low end torque.

I think “kills” is a bit extreme.
It’s possible, but not absolute, that there’s a very slight reduction. I have read several reports that there is an increase in horsepower. Not too sure about that either.
I’m not trying to start an argument but I don’t know if Keith has dyno proven that there’s any loss.

I did the TRD replacement system from Keith which is dual, but in lieu of the TRD tailpipes, I used his stainless dumps. Sounds amazing and I cannot notice any low end loss at all. Butt dyno I know, but just sayin'. His TRD dual system was explained to me as, he used Toyotas design with the TRD system, but made it better by correcting it's flaws.

Keith is not particularly mysterious but is the most knowledgeable about Tundra exhaust systems of anybody I’ve talked to. A great source and a vendor on the forum.

Agreed, he is extremely knowledgeable, I literally talked to Keith today for half an hour about gears and limited slip differentials. Even though he makes exhausts, he knows much much more.

@NCinCO - I just posted about a group buy on the TRD replacement system a little bit ago.

The TRD duals on my truck killed (okay, "extremely hurt") the low end torque compared to the stock system, however, it has seemed to get a bit better in 5,000 miles (or I'm getting used to it). I plan to add an h pipe and if that doesn't help (it should) I might sell it and get a BAM of some flavor. When I first installed the TRD duals, I was actually a bit disappointed, which was difficult to admit given what I paid for it. My buddy even drove it before and after and agreed it felt much softer.

I'm sure they added horsepower up top, but I don't drive around at 6,000 RPM everywhere.

Add another to the list of fans of @dirtydeeds. I couldn't be happier with my 8" BAMuffler from Keith. He spent a lot of time on the phone with me, answering all my questions. The resulting growl is just what I was looking for.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I pestered Keith a few times before he helped me decide on my 10" Single. My Brother wanted the same sound but in a Dual System. Keith sold him a system with TRD Tails; we're both happy as dogs in dirt! :oldglory:

I've had the TRD duals for just over a year and I haven't experienced any noticeable loss of low end torque in my daily driving. I don't doubt there may a little but nothing that would stop me from buying it again. Also, since my truck was only 4 months old when I had it installed by a Toyota dealer, I like it that it is covered under my warranty.

That's good. Mine was installed by the dealer around 1,000 miles. I drive over Donner Pass every week, so I feel it on the grades to maintain highway speed.

The consensus is that there is no reason to go duels other than for looks or if you’ve got long tube headers. I have the 6” BAM with the stock single outlet exit. I added a aFe dry drop in filter and flow accelerator to the stock airbox. It really feels woken up now. Plenty of air flowing in and out of the engine. The sound is amazing!

If you must go duels I suggest Keith’s setup over TRD. His incorporates an X pipe.
    http://dirtydeedsindustries.com/product/trd-replacement-system/
If you want mild to wild with the flip of a switch, hes got one that uses the stock muffler and electric cutouts. Choose your poison. He makes multiple setups and can custom tailor it to your liking. If you don’t like it he will except a return and give you full credit towards a different exhaust. Just pay shipping. Find any other exhaust shop that does that.!

My custom duels built by highly regarded Exhaust Pro's here in Denver certainly aren't for looks. I could have paid for the additional X-pipe configuration but not needed. The dual in/dual out Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow internal design has a resonance tuning chamber. I have no noticeable low end torque loss and zero drone.

Im a believer in combining both exhaust banks. Wherever it’s merged, in an x pipe or in the muffler. Imo I feel it’s better outside the muffler. I like the mufflers straight through with no bends. Im sure it’s minimal, but perforations in the X seem like it would create turbulence. Idk just how I picture it.

I’ve personally tested all of the above. And if running true duals, with stock exhaust manifolds or long tubes, a properly built X pipe design has far greater low end torque than no Crossover. And slightly more than an H pipe.

Most guys don’t realize that low end torque loss is most noticed on the highway, not taking off from a red light.

I'm not running with two straight pipes with in line single in/single out mufflers which would require an X or H configuration or like BAMs with Hemholtz. I quite frankly don't care about street/highway performance. My custom locally fab'd setup does just quite fine for me off road going on 2 years now since I had it installed. Not how I picture it..how it really is for me. Most weekends here in Denver is a radio show called "Mike's Garage". YUGE..Exhaust Pro's are no stranger to the show. Whether Street or Off road exhaust setups...these are THE go to guys. Not cheap but worth it and local small business family owned. It's a "THING" to do here. Not unusual to wait a few weeks to get in for the custom setup. Worth the wait.
