New Tundra owner here, I know this has been asked a million times in the forum but I’ve read too much and listened to too many videos to decide. I’m 31, have a three year old and my wife would kill me if it was anything obnoxious. Help!

Depends on what you want. My opinion:

TRD - slightly obnoxious. Loud for the neighbors on early morning starts. Ok at first, in time wife annoying.
6” BAM = obnoxious - unless she’s into loud exhaust, hate.
8” BAM = TRD just a bit deeper. Some drone on the highway at will get annoying.
10” BAM = more deep tones, cools sound, not annoying. Generally wife approved.

Have you had all the systems? I do not feel the 8 drones even without the resonator

Both are nice systems. I have experience with both.

TRD has a slight chopper resonance on the highway - bothered me, but not everyone is bothered by it. Otherwise a nice tempered deep tone.

With BAM, as long as you use the tailpipe resonator, you'll be OK. You'll hear it on the throttle but quiets down on highway and light throttle scenarios. BAM 8 is very throaty and you hear it throughout the RPM band on throttle. I had a BAM 12 that sounded like a deeper toned version of stock - crisp, but not real throaty. I suppose the BAM 10 would be a mix of the 8 and 12.

No. I have heard all of them, but haven’t owned them. I went through it as I was deciding whether or not I wanted to change and the final result was I kept stock (for now).

Opinions are super subjective with exhaust sounds. So take mine for what you paid for it.

I’m 50...Wife is 49.. yep she noticed! And wants one for her RAV4!:notsure:

10inch BAMuffler in my opinion is the sweet spot for clean cool sound! Not too obnoxious when you put the pedal to the floor! No resonator.. My 5.7 is now Woke!

I got the 8” ss w resonator. Super easy install. Sounds great when you’re on the throttle, disappears when cruising. That’s with the resonator, I didn’t try it without the resonator.

My neighbors could hear my 10 inch in the early mornings when i fired it up. The trd duals are quieter on the Outside than the 10 inch By a mile, however the trd will have more interior drone. The 10 inch sounds better though. Way better.

i thought the 10 inch was amazing. It had zero drone and almost no noise on the inside. The outside woke my wife up, but our houses are thin. If i could do it over, i would get a 12 or 14 inch

If you want something that is quiet while driving but opens up when you get into it check out the Corsa dB series. I have the 24916 on my ‘18 and I bought it because there is zero drone. I actually wish it was a little bit louder but I’ll run it till I can get a BAM next year.

If I remember correctly, the Autoanything coupons worked on the Corsa products. I want to say I was out the door for around $700 and it was at my doorstep in about a week.

I am a TRD guy. My current Tundra and previous one had the TRD exhaust.

I like the way it sounds, esp after its been for a year or so, it burns in a little and on throttle up it sounds great. At cruising speed you dont hear it, no drone, at least none that I can hear.

My current ride has the exhaust with the black chrome tips and I would really rather have the chrome tips, the black chrome are hard to keep clean and shining. They appear to me anyway to stain easier.

I also like that the TRDs are true duels, no H pipes.

Get what you prefer, I know that Keith makes a great product over there at @dirtydeeds and he is the man that can answer all of you tundra exhaust related questions.

My exhaust story for my 2018 is as follows:

I purchased a TRD exhaust when I bought the truck. I had the dealership install it one month later and upon leaving the parking lot, immediately felt like I made a mistake due to the significant perceived loss of torque. I tried to like it for 8 months before admitting to myself that I made a $1200 mistake. The truck drove like shit and the exhaust droned bad.

I weighed buying a BAM 8" for about two months before finding a group buy on here and pulled the trigger and now my truck has never driven or sounded better. I sold the TRD setup for $500.

In summary, the TRD exhaust looks cool and sounds good when the pedal is floored but causes a huge torque loss. Go with the BAM.

Stay stock. Most torque, and designed precisely how the Toyota engineers wanted to maximize power.

Agree, very little drone if at all. Sound is pretty tame cruising at 75.

I've gone back and forth between the TRD and 10" DD. Want to get one this year, but can't decide. Towing has me concerned because it's loud enough towing with stock.

Keith recommends the 10” with resonator if you are going to tow.

I know. I've read every thread and still can't decide. If it was today, I'd call Keith and order the 10" SS. I think. TRD system with black tips looks sweet.

This is true. I added an H pipe to my TRD to get rid of the helicopter sound, and had a noticeable pick up in low end torque.

I think it comes down to looks as well. Do you want the dual side exits? If the TRD offered split rear exits, i would buy it yesterday. Personally i hate side exits, i cut off my stock tailpipe too. Some guys like it, it is personal preference

Skewed results. Some would say, “ah, most say TRD” but there are 3 others splitting votes. I voted 8”, but would also like the 10”.

I just got a 8 inch. Sunday I plan to tow my bass boat 150 miles. I have a small amount of concerns that it is going to be to loud. It is quiet up to 2000 RPM's. 3000 RPM's it wakes up. I drive slow and mostly stay below 2000 RPM's. I got the 8 inch because of this. Keith said I needed a 10 inch because I use my truck to tow my boat 95% of the time. My wife thinks it is to quite. She is a car girl. I just wish she was not into Audi's. I would say you need a 10 inch.

I have the bam 10. Sounds fantastic. Definitely loud in the cab without the resonator on. Wakes the neighbors up. Haven’t tried it with the resonator but I’m sure it’ll be fine. Actually pretty quiet to me while at highway speeds vs the city.
