Who has this? I want to build my own, but with hinged lids. From the videos I’ve seen, the area to install it seems shallow. Is it worth it? Is there actually useable space?

I have the ESP unit in the picture. I find it more than adequate given the options provided to me by Toyota, which was nothing. It's deep enough to get everything I need to carry in the three compartments. Overall, good mod for the crewmax and I am glad there's a decent aftermarket solution to what should have been a factory standard issue.

Agreed, there should have been something factory. Thanks for the review! Any estimate on how deep the unit is?

I can take some measurements when I get home if you want but they should be listed on their website. I'm able to get quite a few things in the bins like recovery gear, tow straps, bungees, my hitch, an inverter, etc.

Awesome thanks. I’ll check if there’s specs on the website. All that gear is exactly what I want to use it for.

For the price and the convenience it gives you, yes it is worth it. When I first installed it I didnt think it was much room considering how much dead space is under the rear seat. Now, I think its perfect. It helped me thin out some of my junk and let me keep really only what I should have in my storage.

They do have a version with locking lids, but it’s a good bit more money I believe.

I put one of these in about a year ago, and am very happy with it. Very easy to install, and it holds everything I need it to.

Shouldn’t be difficult for someone who has the equipment and know how. There isn’t much to it.

I've got the plastic ESP. It is adequate. Once you get the rear seats out and the carpet peeled back to see what's involved, a DIY job easily get you close to 175% more usable actual storage volume than the ESP offering. When I was installing mine, after I cut the carpet and saw what was actually available in terms of length x width especially going toward the bed between the seat rail attachments I realized that ESP left a lot of meat on the bone. To put it in perspective, I laid an AR pistol that is 26" long with the stock toward the front seat and the muzzle pointing toward the bed and it would comfortably fit inside the foam. The ESP bins are 10.2" front to back. Might want to search on here for some pics of the rear floor with the seats and carpet removed. There are several. Also, if you're going DIY, take a look at this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/crewmax-backseat-storage-hack.27951/

Yep I was looking at a vid that stripped back the foam and saw the rear sloped upward. I think I’m gonna build a sloped box to make the most of that space. I’ll just have to cut the openings first to get real measurements. Something I was hesitant to do, but feeling more comfortable now that I’ve seen so many pics. Thanks for the info!

Knowing how much space is truly back there I feel like a diy system/box would be fairly easy to do once you get over the fact your cutting massive holes into your truck. i think a diy kit would be the best way to go if you're confident in fabricating something bc the ESP does waste quite a bit of real estate underneath the seat.

does adding the under seat stuff like the ESP and removing foam make the truck louder?

The locking version looks nice as well, would be a good spot for my guns as well.

Does the ESP plastic drop in box just drop in and stay in place based on fit? Based on the videos, appears it just drops in and stays in place.

Anyone run into any issues with it shifting or moving or is it pretty secure?

I really need a place to store straps, booster, cables and stuff. Right now I keep putting in, removing and shifting around a couple small duffle bags

this is what I want! I’ve emailed esp to see if they can weld a vertical section to split the 2 compartments and have their own dedicated lock boxes. I was willing to pay for the extra services. But no reply. I’ll just be purchasing them and have someone locally weld a vertical separation piece.

The fit of the plastic one depends 100% on the installer. If you cut out too much foam it is going to be loose and it won't hold properly.

I was meaning if it was properly installed.

Some products can be installed and used as intended and they still suck.

Wasn't sure what the case was with this one. Does it shift over time, does it wear away at the edges of the cut carpet or foam etc.

I was going to build my own this summer [just for a fun project]. But this kind of looks cool. I could smoke them with some duplicolor too.

Maybe, build a longer box on one side for my guns and a tray or two on the other side ... hmmm.

Every time I think about dropping 700 bucks on the ESP tray, I think, "I could do this myself for 100 bucks, put 500 in mutual funds, and put another 100 into the vacation chest.
